Default What to use as a Blu-ray reference disk…

Greetings all,

In testing and tweaking your system everyone should have a reference disk so you can weigh the validity of our latest purchases.

What do you use for Audio?
Or Video?
Or do you use one for both?

Cheers,

Blu

Default Reference disk

For an animated film, anything animated Disney.
For a live action film, anything live action Disney.

Their video is so well mastered that I find myself buying Disney movies I wouldn't have dreamt wasting the money of buying on DVD (Meet the Robinsons, Game Plan, etc) just because of the super quality.

Audio reference? Casino Royale maybe. Top quality all around, good mix of loud music, sound effects, and crazy action sequences with the occasional massive BOOM!

Thanks for your replies!

Are there no other reference discs that anyone uses? Other than tuning products?

i second that. DVE's blu-ray dvds were made specifically for this purpose.

it just takes a while for you to understand it, but after a while im sure you can get it 'calibrated'

if you're truly serious in getting the best results its not a bad idea to front the money for em, or settle with the built in thx optimizers.

the reason why i dont chose 'mainstream' movies, is because you want to calibrate your system, and not to 'show it off'.

you do that AFTER you calibrate it with those disc

I use the Pat Metheny concert disc (any chapter) or the Discovery Atlas - Australia. Both rock and are consistant in PQ. Both were shot with HD video cameras.

Default Immortal Beloved

Hello

Of all the movies that I have had the pleasure to view to date on Blu-ray; remarkably, Immortal Beloved for Picture Quality, and subtly so, for Audio Quality.

Thank You

Agreed! The Wild has some killer 3D imagery as well.

Watchout for MIB for audio! When James(Will Smith) drags that table over to use it for writing on...
DAMN!

I always show the scene from 300 (not the greatest reference disc, but it is a spectacle movie) with the first battle at the hot gates. Always gets people to be awed.

There are so many good looking and sounding blu-rays. But this would probably the best for both PQ & AQ in one.
