Default transfering psn games to a different ps3

Just wondering if it is even possible. My little bro. just bought the 80gb MSG bundle and it came w/ a voucher for the psn game pain.

The reason I am wondering is my parents don't have highspeed internet and he is coming to visit me this weekend. He would like to somehow transfer it to his ps3 from mine w/ a jump drive or something. We live across lake MI from each other and he can't bring his ps3 cuz he is riding the ferry. (I know this would be a suggestion.)

I am thinking this is not possible and would stop people from sharing games w/ there friends. I just thought I would check, otherwise I will be buying the voucher $5.

I also would like to know if it's possible to transfer things such as downloaded games for the PS1 from the Playstation Store between say a DVDR or Portable storage device?

When the new maps came out for Call of Duty 4, I know a couple of people who put the Map Pack onto a USB stick and transfered them to another PS3, so is this also possible with anything downloaded from the store?

You can't move game code off the hard drive.

However, if it's legitimately purchased content, you can install anything purchased off of PSN on up to 5 systems from the same account, so just log in via the account that bought the game and re-download it onto the new PS3.

You're allowed to install most PSN games on up to 5 PS3s (I think 5 is the limit anyway) but I think they have to be downloaded from PSN so they can keep track of that. I've installed all of my PSN games on the 2 PS3s I have using that method.

Edit: I was too slow. Just see Icemage's post.

Just ask him to bring the PS3 over. Apart from being able to download that game, which I don't think is that big, he can also do a firmware update.

+1

Just log onto the other PS3 with your account; click "Download List" (in the top right corner of the Playstation Store); select whatever it is that you want to download; download it onto the new console.

The only games that dont work for this are Warhawk and Gran Turismo.

So... what everybody is trying to say is that they didn't actually listen to you. There's not really a way unfortunately, but when he does come over, download the firmware update to a flash drive or something for him, atleast he can use that. And Without broadband internet, I don't think you can connect to the Internet with the PS3 can you? Which is what i think most people are missing here, not the whole downloading on more than one console fiasco

Maybe we're not understanding the original post.

What it sounds like he's trying to do is get a copy of PAIN from HIS PS3 (how he got it there without broadband, I've no clue... maybe a snail-pace download over 56K using a PC network bridge?) to his brother's PS3.

I assume since the question is being asked at all that his brother has no viable internet at home at all, otherwise he could just use the voucher to download the game and that would be the end of the story.

Either way, the answer remains the same; you can't transfer games directly from one PS3 to another.

To the OP: Your brother is better off finding someone near him (maybe a neighbor?) who he can ask to borrow a network connection for long enough to get a firmware update and set up a PSN account to activate his voucher for PAIN.

Thanks for putting words in my mouth. I did actually read AND understand what the OP posted. But like Icemage said, it CAN'T be done.

You can't transfer a PSN game or demo via a flashdrive or a portable HDD. You can't even transfer the uncompressed file the game or demo that you have downloaded. It HAS to be downloaded and it has to be installed.

You ALSO can't SWITCH the HDD from the OP's to his brother's. The voucher will be activated by the OP's account AND PS3 instead of his brother's. It's tied to the PS3, not the HDD.

So like it or not, the PS3 has to take the ferry ride. Otherwise, no Pain.

Like most people are saying, you can download PSN games onto 5 PS3's. You will just have to login with the account that purchased the game on the other PS3 and download the game.

Once you finish downloading the game I recommend that you go to account management and deactivate your PSN ID from the playstation that is not yours. Your ID can only be activated on 5 PS3's as well.

I ran into this problem in the past and I wasn't aware of this. I bought my first PS3 then sold it. Bought a second one. Shared PSN games with my friends that I had purchased. Then my second PS3's harddrive went bad. So it was replaced by Sony.

When I got the replacement PS3 I couldn't activate my PSN ID to the new one or download my games that I had purchased. Called Sony and they told me that I reached the limit of 5 systems activated on my PSN ID. They said that when you login with your ID on another system and download anything, that PS3 will be automatically activated to your ID.

I'm already down three systems that I could never deactivate my account from(the one that I sold, the one that broke and one I don't remember login into). So I had to call my friend and my brother and had to give them my account info so they can login and go to account management and deactivate the system for my ID. So I only have one available activation left since the fourth in on my current PS3.

Thanks for the info guys. I do have high speed internet (not 56k) It is my bro. who does not have it. I ended up just buying the voucher from him for $5. When he comes over and can bring his ps3 I will do the downloading to 5 ps3 and get him the games. Thanks again

Where can you go to deactivate the system?
Also, just to make sure I understand: If you deactivate a system they can no longer play any games downloaded from that account right? For instance if someone were to download a game from me then deactivated my account from their system, then they could not play the game anymore, is that correct?
