Default Samsung 650, Onkyo 506, and PS3 compatibilty problem. HELP!!

I am extremely confused as to what the problem is that's occurring. When I connect my PS3 to my receiver(Onkyo TX-SR506) and then to my TV(Samsung 40" 650 series) I get a static/white image that consistently flashes on my screen and a popping noise through the sound. Has any one ran into this problem or have a fix for me??

Troubleshooting methods that i've done(everything connected through HDMI v1.3):

-HD Satellite connected to TV - Pictures fine
-HD Satellite connected to Receiver and then to TV - Pictures fine

-2 different PS3's connected to TV - Pictures fine
-2 different PS3's connected to 2nd TV(Sony SXRD A2000) - Pictures fine
-2 different PS3's connected to Receiver and then to TV - Flicker/Static Problem
-2 different PS3's connected to Receiver and then to 2nd TV - Pictures fine

-Xbox 360 Elite connected to TV - Pictures fine
-Xbox 360 Elite connected to surround and then to TV - Pictures fine

-I've tried different HDMI cables with the same results(even non HDMI v1.3).
-My PS3's are updated w/ the update that came out recently, I think June 16th.
-I've exchanged the Receiver with a new one and I still have the same problem.

The most confusing part about this whole shenanigans is that if you combine any 2 of the 3 "problematic" items together they work fine but once you connect the third item there's a problem. Once again, can anyone help?

Default Similar Problem/ No solution Found Yet

I also have an Onkyo TX-SR506 thats connected to an Optoma P70 DLP projector via HDMI. My XBOX360 works just fine with it. My PS3works fine through the HDMI as long as im only playing games. When I do watch movies on it there are no problems for about 30 minutes. After that i get a blue screen for several seconds and then the picture and audio come back on. It continues to go in and out for the rest of the movie. I also get a line of static through the home screen. I hope some wizard has a solution for this frustrating problem. Im ready to get rid of my PS3.

Uhm, are you guys sure the 506 is capable of doing this? I'm not sure but I'd think you'd need to run an optical cable out.

The 506 has HDMI passthrough only, meaning it simply passes both audio and video through to the TV. You'll get sound, but not through the AVR. In order to get limited surround sound, you will need to connect a separate optical line from the source to the AVR.

But that does not explain the two complaints above. I'd say there's a pretty high probability that it's something in your 506 and not the PS3. Personally, I would use this issue as a reason to return these units and get a full-function AVR like the 605/606. You will not be able to take advantage of the HD audio codecs with the 506, as these need to be sent via HDMI, and the 506 will not process (or accept) that signal. The best you'll get will be standard DD or DTS via optical/coax.

Question this problem ever resolved?

Were you ever to solve this issue? I can almost promise you it has nothing to do with yout Onkyo 506. We just got this same TV and hitched the PS3 directly up to it and experienced the exact same issue. I've done a lot of internet searching and found several posts complaining of the same problem with this and other TVs and the problem seems to be on the end of the PS3. This problem is only occurring when trying to set the PS3 to be at 1080p in gaming mode (seems to work fine for Blu-Ray DVDs). This is very frustrating since this was the main purpose for buying this new TV. If you found a resolution I'd love to hear it, or if anyone else has any ideas.

Cool

what kind of speakers do u have? are u partial to them? becuase heres what i did... i had a harman kardon cp15. my sub died. then my decoder in the reciever. i shopped around (i unfortunately worked at circuit city) so i knew the technology very well. i am not the average associate. i was a manufacturer certified repair tech, and home installer... then a sales man when they downsized about a year ago. i shopped harman, onkyo, and denon. i looked at pioneer elite... i didnt see any comparison on price versus value. i weighed my options (the jbl. infinity rebadged harman speakers i had left over i got rid of fast... harman left a bad taste...) and harman was pricey. i looked at dennon... lets face it... the dennon ht588ba was a joke... then i waited... and waited... and bought the heavily favored and saved onkyo hts6100 display... heres how it worked... person bought a hts5100... the box had no wires... i gave them wires from the hts6100... making it unwanted... so it sat. once we went liquidate, the surround went open box because new model is due in april. i jumped... and got it for 500 bux. normal retail is 700. the reason i think you should buy it (sorry for being so long winded till this point) is you basically get the onkyo txsr606 with out a powered zone 2... and a pretty good speaker package. check out that system asap. it will also fix your video and audio conversion.... because i have my ps3 running through it... and a wii and highdef satelite.

1. Set: BD 1080p 24 Hz Output (HDMI) = Off

2. Connect an Optical cable, and set PS3 to Bitstream.
