Default Hammer Horror rumor...

Hopefully Wicky, Bill, or Penton can tell me if this is a no chance in hell thing...

My sources tell me that Sony is going to be working on an Icons of Horror collection and the first one will focus on four Hammer Films.

The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll, The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb, The Gorgon and Scream (or Taste) of Fear are the ones named and they will be remastered and released on dvd on October 14th.
Any chance of a blu release?

And anyone who wants to chime in with the whole "I don't think they deserve to be on blu" can sod off.

I would snatch these up in a heartbeat. Hammer rocks

Truly, what I would like to see is a box-set of the Christopher Lee Dracula movies. While they're at it, they can also throw in a Peter Cushing Frankenstein set also

Anyone who says this is a ******. The argument against older or obscure titles being released on BD is retarded. All films can and should be on blu, whether you are a fan of them or not. And anything that has at least been shot on film can look far superior to their dvd counterparts.

Bring on the Hammer releases! I would also love to see some Amicus and Tigon titles, but that is asking far too much at this stage in the life cycle of blu-ray.

+3, and Smart People Only Allowed, for the remainder of the thread discussion

(I only half qualify, since I used to know whether Anchor Bay still owned the remainder of the Hammer catalog, but have since forgotten, and, even though Starz/Anchor is Blu-friendly, don't know whether to leave a candle in the window for "Quatermass & the Pit")

Sorry, don't beat me...but what is Hammer? As far as old and "obscure" films, what about Fulci, Argento, any other Italian/international splatter icons?

Clever. I was talking along the lines of what Films (besides the ones mentioned) have they done. I have a limited knowledge of Dario Argento and Lucio Fulci (and some Troma and Brain Damage indie films ), and I, and my friends, love those.

Go to Google. Search under "Hammer Film Productions" The first 3 websites at the top of the page should be; Hammer Films website, their Wikipedia entry, and the IMDB entry.

Those will give you an idea of who Hammer Films Productions are.

Add me to the list. I had been hoping for years that Anchor Bay would release an anamorphic version of what many consider to be the best of the Christopher Lee Dracula flicks : Dracula, Prince of Darkness. But I'd be ecstatic to see Warner Bros. release its library of classic Hammer Films on Blu-ray ASAP.

Then there is hope that somewhere in the world a region-free Blu-ray disc will be produced.

Don't want to give you false hopes but MONSTERS HD has been showing wide-ecreen high-defs of CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN and HORROR OF DRACULA all week in NY. PQ was a big disappointment.

What is Hammer?
Four words: Peter Cushing. Christopher Lee.

(And for those who don't know Cushing by name, imagine the Death Star guy as Van Helsing or Dr. Frankenstein...)

Here is the only link you need to know about for Hammer films on dvd:

http://www.zetaminor.com/dvd/hammer_dvd_guide.htm

I hope they are coming to Blu-ray but frankly they don't scream big sellers to me. But Sony has made stranger decisions before on what to release to Blu-ray...

I am so tired of you people who think that everything comes down to big releases and big money and that only things that will sell big numbers deserve to be released.
A more diverse catalog has alot more impact than a catalog of just the trendy main releases.
