Default No "CSI: Miami" & "CSI: NY" on Blu-ray this year :(

Now that sucks.

I've been disappointed numerous times when it comes to Blu-ray expectations ("Rescue Me - Season 4", "Nip/Tuck - Season 5", "Desperate Housewives - Season 4" and "Supernatural - Season 3" come to mind, as well as "Gossip Girl - Season 1"), but I was absolutely positive that "CSI" would make it to the HD format...those season sets always sell like pancakes and a large part of the audience is not necessarily low-tech when it comes to home entertainment equipment, one would think.

All "CSI"s would hugely benefit from High Definition...they offer a lot of eye candy and detailed fx shots. But I just read on TVShowsonDVD.com that Paramount announced today both "CSI: Miami" and "CSI. NY"...with no mention of a Blu-ray release. Looking at previous DVD announcements, those wording usually means exactly that: DVDs only.

Damn.

2009 is when we will see more of tv shows on blu-ray. 2008 is more like the blockbuster movies of this year like Iron Man and The Dark Knight to name a couple of good examples

Default CSI (Las Vegas)

I would love to see the original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation on Blu-Ray. Glad to see there are others out there who want these as well. Maybe Paramount/ Viacom/ CBS will take notice sometime soon.

Yes, I know....that's absolutely awesome. I was also thrilled to see Chuck coming to Blu-ray.

Having the CSIs and maybe "House, M.D." on BD would've been nice, but oh well, maybe next year. One thing that really surprised me, though, was that "Bones" won't be coming to Blu-ray anytime soon. With othter FOX shows like "Prison Break" and "Terminator" already embracing the HD format I was expecting "Bones" to show up as well, but according to TVShowsOnDVD, it's not happening.

Waiting for "Supernatural" won't be difficult for me, by the way, because I have quite a backlog and I accumulate all TV show sets over the course of the year anyway, getting them all at once for Christmas from my family. It's really nice and something to look forward to.

The OP expressed his disappointment in the lack of a "Supernatural" S3 announcement back in June (when the title had yet to be announced).

Paramount hinted earlier this year that at least ONE of the "CSI" series might make it to HD DVD this year (click here for link), but I believe the "death" of HD DVD delayed their plans as they have since started focusing on getting out former HD DVD exclusives out onto Blu-ray along with D&D (Day & Date) releases. If you notice, Paramount has YET to release a single TV on Blu-ray release.

Universal has also focused on getting out former HD DVD exclusives onto Blu-ray... which includes their former HD DVD exclusive, "Heroes: Season One". While I personally would have liked to have gotten "House, M.D." from them (either S1 or S4), I think they did the right thing by getting "Heroes" S1 out first.

As for "Bones", well I would have been surprised to see it this year (but probably not next year)... though the DVD set has YET to be officially announced at this time, so there's still a SLIM possibility. As for the other FOX shows being released, only one of those you mentioned ("Prison Break") is actually a Fox release as "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" is a WB release.

Personally, I'm still hoping for a Blu-ray release of "Reaper" from Lionsgate to go along with the DVD release, but I'm not holding my breath...

What does "those season sets always sell like pancakes" mean? Is that a good thing? I'm not joking, I've never heard that expression, and to my knowledge pancakes aren't huge sellers.

To my knowledge shows like CSI aren't huge sellers. The reason for this is the wide availability of the show in syndication and the fact that the show isn't really serialized, meaning you don't need to watch the episodes in any order to understand. This is why most of the shows that have been released have been serialized shows like Heroes, Smallville, and Lost.

actually the first series on dvd was the x-files and it wasn't serialized. you didn't have to watch every episode to know what was going on. and the x-files sold like waffles. which is better than pancakes. in fact the x-files are contributed to/started the whole tv shows on dvd trend.

Old CSIs and House MDs look really bad in High-Def. There's no way you could convince me to re-buy those on Blu-Ray. The only improvement would be sound...and honestly, on a show like that does it really matter?

Newer ones would be an entirely different matter.

I'd like to keep individual series all in DVD or Blu-ray. Newer series diffently in Blu-ray since most are broadcast in HD/5.1. Older ones like GREEN ACRES deffinately DVD only.
