Default Sony S300 vs Panasonic BD50

Hallo,
I life in Switzerland and at this moment i have the S300 and the PS3 too.
My reciever is a Rotel pre-pro-> without a hdmi and I go from BD player to the Pioneer fullHD plasma and with a coax/opt. from BD the reciever...

To have advantage in sound quality DTS true, DDplus,...if i buy a Panasonic
BD50 I can really win in quality vs. S300 (without decoder ddplus, dts ma,.. inside)??

Please help in my decision.

greetings from Switzerland
Omar

If you have no plans to upgrade your receiver to HDMI, then the BD50 or the upcoming Sony S550 may be the way to go as those will both be BD Live capable players and will also offer 7.1 analog audio outs. I believe (here in the States at least) the Sony S550 will be several hundred dollars cheaper (MSRP) so it might be the better buy. I suspect you will see some reviews on both these players over the next few months.

As for all the lossy vs lossess debates, I have found lossless to be superior to lossy on many titles. I personally think it is nice being able to hear the advanced audio codecs, and hearing the movie is a big part of the overall experience of watching a movie for me.

Hey ,

Have you tried PCM surround track through 5.1 analog outputs which S300 has.

Second,Panasonic BD-50 or S550 from Sony is your best choice to get lossless sound like DolbyTrueHD and DTSHDMA audio through their 5.1 analog outputs.

In order to get benefit from 7.1 surround channel in full lossless sound ,the only way is to buy a new receiver which does include at least an HDMI input. In this case you can decode internaly and get LPCM surround.

Another case if you buy the latest surround receiver which can decode internaly lossless sound, here you can forget these two players mentioned above and get Panasonic BD-30 already released or BDP-S350 released later this summer. Both can bitstreaming lossless sound by receiver.

Hi,
thanks for repons.

well, I want change the preampli (Rotel Rsp1068) with a Denon AVP/AVC1 HD.
than I go with my power ampli Rotel 2xRB1092 andRB1091 the drive the B&W speakers...
If i don't change the reciever I loss all the benefits from the bluray disc in my posses.
I will waiting if Rotel release a new reciever with a serius hdmi.. (not a switch box..)
inside this period I think that the Panasonic BD50 will be a good chioce.
(Sony S350-550 in switzerland will be available in a long time...toooo much time)

If i have good understand the Panasonic 50 is at the moment one of the best solution or???
