Default Pioneer BD Home Cinema Systems

Pioneer Europe has just announced four new Home Cinema Systems, three of which play DVD and BD, the other DVD and SACD. Sadly they still didn't manage to create a drive that plays BD as well as SACD.

Quote:
Building on the success of last year’s LX01, the portfolio includes:
  • LX01BD: Blu-ray Disc Home Cinema System with Omni-Directional Speakers
  • LX03BD: Blu-ray Disc Home Cinema System with 5.1 AV Receiver and Satellite Speakers
  • LX08BD: Blu-ray Disc Home Cinema System with 5.1 AV Receiver
  • LX03: DVD Home Cinema System with Satellite Speakers
The LX03, LX03BD and LX08BD home cinema systems will be available in October; the LX01BD in November.

See Pioneer press release.

The drive to play BD, DVD and SACD exists in 20GB, 60GB and 80GB PS3s. Hopefully these will sell well.

Of course. By 'they' I just meant Pioneer.

Too bad Sony apparently doesn't offer this drive to other manufacturers because Pioneer would obviously be interested.

I don't think it's a matter of "offering" or not. OPUs are commodity products. It's up to Pioneer to want to make a BD/DVD/SACD system. For that matter they can even include DVD-A in it.

Both DVD-A and SACD share the same physical layer as DVD. So it's a matter of including OTHER pieces of electronics to get the player to play DVD-A and SACD. That's also why PS3 doesn't play DVD-A. Sony Consumer Electronics does not support it.
