United Kingdom Black Narcissus

I have always considered this movie an incredible cinematic experience. Looks like this could be a nice transfer.

Even though I'm really looking forward to this movie, after eading this review I think I'll wait for Criterion to catch up.

Thanks.
The DVDTimes review had "No Region" in their specs, but I'll only believe it when its playing in my Region A player. I'll report back here when mine arrives, if it isnt public knowledge by then.

Why do you have to hope

All of the ITV-Granada discs which we will have reviews for on our site shortly are region-free. These are:

1. Black Narcissus
2. Escape to Athena
3. The Boys from Brazil
4. Great Expectations
5. Strictly Ballroom
6. Bugsy Malone

Bugsy Malone's transfer is not as strong as Great Expectations, Black Narcissus and especially Escape to Athena but it is visibly better than the SDVD.

So, no need to be concerned.

I can also confirm that Black Narcissus (with a stunning transfer) and Boys From Brazil are region free.

Default Imports !

Thanks for reviewing this. I hope you soon review the other imports like Great Expectations and Strictly Ballroom. Any general consensus about the quality of European studios' bluray production methods?

Hello,

All of ITVs BR releases will have reviews on our site. In fact, both Great Expectations and Strictly Ballroom are ready (they only need to be added to the database as different slots must be opened). As soon as the Blu-ray.com team returns from Comi-Con, and Deci in particular , these will be on.

As to your second question I am working on having as many import reviews here as possible, European distribs in particular are my weak spot . So far there have been some great European discs (L' Ennemi intime) and some quite average ones (Roman de Gare). This being said the best produced disc I have seen thus far, on both sides of the Atlantic is, hands down, TF1's La Mome (LE)*.

Ciao,
Pro-B

*We are only discussing ABC-coded discs.

watched it last night, absolutely stunning pq! (slight EE halos in some scenes, but no biggie). A great film and a great transfer. If this is going to be the quality that can be expected from the Criterion BD's, i know what i am going to blind-buy.

Watched it this evening. Great film. The last half hour especially is just masterful. Strangely, I had no problem playing the extras and I do not have a region free player.

Cool, that's for the US Region A locked version, but looks like the quality of the transfer is pretty similar to the already-out UK version, so that's good for the UKers who want this. As always though, Criterion put out the best overall package, making me grateful for having a multi-region player
