Default The Dark Knight reviews and reactions. Caution, spoilers galore

The first official review is up. Rolling Stone's Peter Travers gives it 3.5 stars out of 4. There are minor spoilers in the review itself so read at your own risk. The summary is spoiler free:

Quote:
Heads up: a thunderbolt is about to rip into the blanket of bland we call summer movies. The Dark Knight, director Christopher Nolan's absolute stunner of a follow-up to 2005's Batman Begins, is a potent provocation decked out as a comic-book movie. Feverish action? Check. Dazzling spectacle? Check. Devilish fun? Check. But Nolan is just warming up.

No fair giving away the mysteries of The Dark Knight. It's enough to marvel at the way Nolan — a world-class filmmaker, be it Memento, Insomnia or The Prestige — brings pop escapism whisper-close to enduring art. It's enough to watch Bale chillingly render Batman as a lost warrior, evoking Al Pacino in The Godfather II in his delusion and desolation. It's enough to see Ledger conjure up the anarchy of the Sex Pistols and A Clockwork Orange as he creates a Joker for the ages. Go ahead, ***** about the movie being too long, at two and a half hours, for short attention spans (it is), too somber for the Hulk crowd (it is), too smart for its own good (it isn't). The haunting and visionary Dark Knight soars on the wings of untamed imagination. It's full of surprises you don't see coming. And just try to get it out of your dreams.

Time to get even more excited ladies an gents!

And I thought you saw it yourself, jason. How deflating.

Will be seeing this on the 10th, I believe.

Man I wish!

I'm so excited to see this. I can't wait for your review! I have a feeling this may end up being the movie of the year (so far anyway).

hmm I'll wait for some more reviews, the first ones are usually... how to put it, either overhyped or flat-out bashing... I know I'm wrong but when I see a first review that sounds too optimistic and too happy it feels fake.

Last night on Letterman, David had seen it and was gushing. It was funny he said three things make this movie the best ever.

1st, Everybody dies in the end. Everybody.

2nd, Instead of a Batmobile, Batman rides a motorcycle, A HOG. Letterman is a big bike guy.

3rd, Heath Ledger. He went on and on about his performance. He said he was absolutely amazing. He was funny but it was also touching.

I have no doubts it will be the best batsy ever, it certainly has the potential and acting and all that jazz behind it. It's just I don't like the first reviews that start popping up like 2-3 weeks before everybody else.

I agree. Sometimes you can latch on to a reviewer that you seem to agree with but it seems they always throw a curve ball at you.

I must say I always enjoy and seem to agree with WriteSimply (Faud) and his reviews.

hey,

i was able to get to see the film last night for employees advanced screening. and i got to say this. of all the movies i have seen so far this year, this movie the dark knight is the big deal for real. it was perfectly done. Heath Ledger was really a twisted freak. i love this movie, no question about it for sure you will definitely love this movie. i will be seeing it again with the girlfriend when it comes out, but this time we will see it in IMAX.

Question for you. What would you say the appropriate age group would be? I've got a 12 year old daughter I was wondering if it would be too intense. I am planning on seeing it first, but I was wondering if I should not let her get excited about it.

when it comes to violence, i will have to say you should watch it first before taking your child to the movie. as a manager, we are supposed to let the parent be aware of the materials in film. i would have to say compared to the batman begins this one is much more twisted. personally i have a 12 years old brother, i will be taking him to watch it.

This might be a spoiler so highlight at your own risk

[Show spoiler] The reviewer talks about the death of a major character that leads Harvey Dent's character to become two face. Could that major character be maggie Gyllenhaals? watch the third theatrical trailer again and pause it at 1:55. You'll see what I mean.

[Show spoiler] I'm convinced it's her. Again look at 1:55, and 1:27 of the third trailer. Why would the bat cry? And at 1:55 the Joker is throwing her off a rooftop. it's someone who affects both Harvey and the Bat.
