Just bought it the other night for $1079.99 from a mom and pop SEARS. It is a franchise, the owner said he bought a few from another store. They were priced 1199 but then with 10% off. It gets delivered tomorrow with a fridge we bought. Not sure how it is but all the reviews look good and a friend of mine has a 720p Pannie.

Personally, I'd recommend the 50" version. I know 42" sounds like a large TV, but once you get it in to your home, you might be surprised.
I have the 50PZ85U. It's a very nice TV. The 85U has a few little upgrades over the 80U series. You might want to look at the Panasonic site to see the exact differences. My feeling was that the price difference was so small, I wanted the upgraded model even if I did not completely understand what all the upgrades actual do or mean! Regarding price, be sure to check Amazon.com I ended up buying mine there. Their price was $400 cheaper than my local Best Buy's sale price and $300 cheaper than Circuit City's. Also, Amazon collects no sales tax, no delivery fee, and no California Recycling Fee. One thing to be aware of when considering a plasma TV... they are energy hogs. I have a 52" LCD TV in one room and the Panasonic 50" plasma in another. The plasma draws about 600 watts. The LCD only draws about 400 watts. When you consider that the average American watches about 4 hours of TV a day, you are talking about 2400 watt/hours with my Panasonic plasma. That's 2.4 kilowatt/hours a day... 72 kilowatt/hours per month... a huge amount of energy! Put it this way: the average compact fluorescent light bulb uses less than 20 watts. Watching my plasma TV for one hour is like leaving a light bulb on for more than 30 hours! So, know what you are getting in to with a plasma, and expect a higher electricity bill each month. Let me be clear, though! I am NOT pooh-poohing the Panasonic plasmas. The picture on my Panasonic plasma blows away the picture on my 52" 1080P LCD TV. LCD TVs just are not capable of delivering a true black. Blacks are grey on my LCD TV, they are actually black on my Panasonic plasma. I don't know if past year's Panasonic plasma's were any good... I can only say that my 50PZ85U is fantastic and that I love watching it in spite of the fact that I know it is an energy hog! ![]() |
