Default Onkyo component to hdmi question

Ok I am trying to help my parents set a normal dvd player up thru the onkyo 605. They have sound via digital coaxial but no picture. Is there any problem with going dvd out via component cable then from reciever to tv via hdmi? The dvd player isn't the newiest but has component hook ups.

Anyhelp would be appreciated thanks!

Already did that they just git direct tv hd and it is working hdmi from box to reciever to tv, it has hdmi monitor on. But the dvd player setting on the 605 should be set to what if it goes component to out from dvd player to reciever the to tv hdmi? I know its missing some small tedious step.......

You have to set the dvd to component on the Onkyo receiver.

yes, as long as they configure the dvd input on the receiver as component. Then HDMI Moniter = yes

Hopefully they figure it out...as you said, its a simple setting somewhere in the chain.
