Default Does blu-ray make sub par effects stand out more?

Ok, I rented crank last night. Awesome PQ, just like everybody says. This is what HD is meant to look like! But that part where he crashed his car and it was going up the escilator? OMG. That looked like the fakest thing I have ever seen. So does high def make sub par CG and green effects just stand out more and make then look downright bad becuase the picture is so clear? I mean, it looked REALLY bad IMO. Hopefully others who seen the movie can chime in to what they thought.

I don't have a high def player yet, but I would think the answer to your question is yes. I base that on recently upgrading my projector and in watching regular DVDs, noticing that any shortcomings in the film really stand out more. Not only special effects, but makeup, etc. I'm sure that's why some TV performers are nervous about appearing in high def.

Well I agree that make-up and FX are very visual in HD titles like this, especially when they're not "covering it up" with filme-like filters and such.

That's the problem with HD--the suckiness comes through with amazing clarity.
