Default slightly upgrading, need help with contrast ratio

well i had a 32 inch vizio with only a 800:1 contrast ratio. now, it was good, and it really got me into blu ray. it's only 1 year old, but i decided i need to upgrade to take more advantage of my 90 blu ray collection.

my price range is max 1000 dollars basically. so i have decided on a 42 inch vizio for 960 dollars at Sam's Club. it seems as though vizio has really improved over the last year and a half. id like some feedback on this, and also this: it has a 5000:1 contrast ratio, which seems much higher than big vizios i looked at a year ago. is 5000:1 pretty good for a 42 inch 1080p? remember i am jumping up from a 800:1 on a 32 inch 720p.

thanks!

Panasonic Viera TH-42PZ80U 42" 1080p Plasma HDTV

...that Vizio wouldn't hold a candle to this Panasonic. Slighty more than your said budget, but definitely worth the extra.

Seriously....save your money for a big longer and get something better, like crackin said. Don't waste your money on Vizio - you won't regret something better.

Yup dont get another Vizio. I currently have the 32" Vizio and I'm upgrading to the Panasonic plasma crackinhedz posted. People said it has the effect of like watching out the window look and PQ is amazing with no motion blur. Im going to order it tomorrow when I get home from work with my paycheck. I so cannot wait!!!

I don't regret buying my tv. I own a 32" Sharp Aquos 1080p with 10,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. I spent around $1300.

i just bought a 42" samsung plasma from best buy for $900. It is amazing, only 720p, but honestly from my couch i can't tell much of a difference between it and my 1080p 40" LCD samsung. I would stop by best buy if i were you and pick that one up instead... same price but MUCH better!

That's the TV I have. While I wouldn't go as far to say that I regret buying it (at the time of purchase, it was the only 32" 1080p TV out there, and I had a hard maximum size of 32"), I'll never buy another LCD TV. The picture quality compared to plasma is awful.

I'm slowly assembling the components for a home theatre in my audio room, and I'll accept nothing less than a 60" Pioneer or Panasonic plasma (currently eyeing up the new Pioneer PDP 6020).

First time post, I just recently bought a Samsung 56" DLP LED (no bulbs) 1080p HL56A650, I was debating which type of TV (LCD, Plasma, etc.) to get when I got this one. I was able to get this for around $1500.
