I remember liking these movies a lot when they came out and I was like 8 or 10 or something like that. I will definitely rent them first to see how well they (or perhaps I) have aged...

Hell, yeah!! I'll definitely get Romancing the Stone on Blu-ray! But I won't get The Jewel of the Nile because I didn't like "Jewel" as much as I liked "Romancing". "Romancing" had the elements of director Robert Zemeckis and grade-A, Indiana Jones-type adventure! "Jewel" lacked all of those and was a below-average film that relied too heavily on the chemistry of Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, and Danny DeVito to salvage some credit. Like I said, I'll get Romancing the Stone, but not The Jewel of the Nile!

Love 'Romancing the Stone'! A classic! I might pickup 'Jewel of the Nile' too although it is nowhere near as good of a movie as the first.

I absolutely love romancing the stone i watched my old region 1 dvd copy on my upscaled dvd player and I thought it looked pretty good for a movie made in 1984. Can't wait to see when they do with the blu-ray transfer.

Never liked JEWEL OF THE NILE. Recently saw ROMANCING THE STONE a few months back and honestly, it doesn't hold up as well now as when it was first released.

I got both Romancing The Stone and Body Heat over the weekend. OMG...I cannot believe Kathleen Turner now compared to then. It is a totally different person.

Romancing the Stone:

The Blu-ray transfer looks better than I anticipated. Colors have some life and detail is a notch better than what you might expect from a 25-year old film. The image even shows some decent depth and contrast is strong with heavy black levels. Background noise exists but it is limited and we aren't offered have much grain. The image is fairly smooth and blemish-free. Technically it is dual-layered with the feature size being a healthy 31.7 Gig. I don't see evidence of DNR or edge enhancements. In fact I'd have to say the MPEG-4 AVC encoded image is fairly flawless. I have no strong complaints. I'll wager this is as good as Romancing the Stone will look for your home theater. The Blu-ray image gives us no reason whatsoever to complain. Hopefully, the screen captures below will give you an idea of what it will look like on your system. It's pretty impressive.

Jewel of the Nile:

The Fox Blu-ray transfer seems adept with a softer palette, as compared to Romancing the Stone. This is probably how it was shot and detail doesn't suffer much because of it. It does tend to mute colors to some degree. Background noise is fairly fine but visible in monochromatic skies. The image overall is very smooth . I don't think it has as much depth as Romancing the Stone but I can't really point out any specific flaws. It looks about what one might expect for a 20+ year old film put to 1080P - perhaps a notch better than that. DP Jan de Bont shows the Moroccan landscapes looking mighty impressive and enticing at times - ditto for Miss Turner. The feature size being a healthy 33.4 Gig on the dual-layered Blu-ray. I don't see evidence of DNR or edge enhancements. You may click on the screen grabs to see the full 1080 resolution.

Yeah, I was all geared up to upgrade from my DVDs until I saw that they were a Fox release.
