Default Sony 720 or Yamaha 663/661?

I can get the Sony for for 200.00 & the 663 for 300.00.. Does the 661 support audio over HDMI? A co worker told me you need a optical connection for audio when running HDMI with the 720? True? I also heard it's not compatible with DVI tv's due to Sony's HDMI 'intelligence' technology?

you only need an HDMI cable with the 720. Your friend is mistaken.

as far as DVI, I had never heard of that problem before...was this also from the same "friend"?

...but out of the two, sony or yamaha... Id get the Yamaha 663. (the 661 also supports 7.1 PCM over hdmi)

hehe.. I know that didn't sound right.. We both work for BB.. Shes in the mag department. I think she meant the 520, but who knows.. I read about the DVI problem on the Best Buy website.. Was a owners reviewer.. She did recommend the Yamaha 663, & told me they are selling very well.. She also suggested one of the new pioneers that came out.
I work in the warehouse & we got 2 Yamahas in on Wed, but didn't have the money then.. Now they are gone.. Do you think Yamahas 5.1 DSP will work with the HD codecs or not? I'm thinking not..

yeah, anything below the 720 I believe requires the optical connection.
