Default You've skipped the Blu-ray?

What films in HD are you quite content with on with on regular DVD and why?

Mine:

"Live Free or Die Hard". I bought the unrated DVD. Now THAT was a "Die Hard" movie!

For that matter I will not buy "Walk the Line" is the eventual Blu-ray isn't the extended cut.

I also skipped "American Gangster" on HD DVD because no extended cut.

Here's the biggie:

"Field of Dreams". When it came to HD DVD I thought about picking it up but chose not to. i first saw it on Sci Fi Channel with my father ten years ago. He had seen it and knew I would love it. Once the twist was revealed he said he loved this movie not just because of baseball and how fun it is, but he didn't have a good relationship with his dad, but he and I are very close. On my 16th birthday, fall of 2004, he gave me the 2 disc widescreen version that had been released that summer. We watched it that night once Mom had turned in. Then we powered through all the deleted scenes and extras. It was awesome. We pulled it out again last year before a trip back to my mother's family in Boston. if it comes to Blu-ray I won't be getting it. I'm sure it will look and sound superb but my DVD has DTS and an anamorphic transfer that looks pretty good. Most importantly, it came from my dad

Natural Born Killers. It is not the directors cut, and thats the only way to watch that movie. Until it comes out on Blu, SD is fine with me.

Anything that doesn't have an hd audio track. Why pay for half of the experience?

That is why I'm not getting "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" even though I love the movie.

I can't argue with that... but Live Free or Die Hard has argueably the best AQ (audio quality) of any blu-ray to date... I can go without an extra curse words for superb quality sound.

I'm not content with anything on DVD anymore. That said, however, I'm probably not going to replace my entire collection. I'm only double-dipping on titles I really like.

You're missing out big time by not owning Live Free Die Hard on BD.

No doubt. Seriously, the "unrated" edition is just dubbed-over (and poorly done, at that) swearing and CGI blood. You're really getting the inferior copy, in my opinion. The unrated edition was added in after people started complaining about the rating as compared to past movies.

My wife says to me last night "why do you have to get the movie again if we already own it, I don't get it!" We were discussing that I wanted to pre-order Kill Bill. I tried to explain it to her. Then I showed her some comparisons and how much better older movies looked and she said "it's an 80's movie it's suppose to look like that!" She doesn't get it.

Sin City collectors edition is cool, with the book and green screen extra.

I'm totally spoiled now, and I will rarely buy or watch anything on Standard DVD. Of course there are exceptions. Any film that has not yet made its way to Blu Ray will be watched by me.

I will watch standard DVDs, but I prefer to buy only blu from here on out. Of course there are some movies that are an absolute necessity to have on blu, some others aren't. But I don't buy it just because it's on blu-ray.

As an audiophile, I'd have to agree 100%.

Comedies
Dramas
TV shows
Black and white movies.

Basically I don't plan on upgrading anything that falls under any of those categories. They look just fine upscaled to 1080p. If it's an issue of a special edition or director's cut dvd versus a standard blu ray release. I'll gladly wait because we all know that they will eventually come out. Studios need to have an excuse to re-release their catalogue down the road right?

I don't know if its available to you or not, but TNT has been showing Kill Bill in HD lately. I recommend watching for it and showing her that and trying to explain how much better it'll be on Blu-Ray.

I saw some of it and I thought it looked good for 720p.

I probably owned 800 dvds (am in the process of selling most) and would probably buy 100 of those on blu. For the most part I wouldn't buy the blu unless it offered a big picture and sound upgrade.

I can't believe how good Casablanca and Renaissance 2054 look!! They are both in black and white btw.

I bought Death Sentence mainly because I felt the 35 dollar mark was too much to import (having not seen it yet).

I am debating on picking up The Grindhouse Movies because I hear negatives and positives when it comes to picture. (Hopefully they will eventually be released on Blu).

There a few I've passed (at least for now), simply because the standard DVDs have a lot better packaging and features. Namely Black Hawk Down, Kingdom of Heaven: DC, and Memento.

Oh I have no doubt that they do. If it's a b&w movie that I don't already own and I want, I'll gladly pick it up on blu ray. However I am NOT going to re-buy the b&w movies I already have. Actually I don't own that many b&w movies anyway. I have A Christmas Carol, It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street, seasons of the Andy Griffith Show, Frankenstein, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Godzilla, and Psycho.

I MIGHT buy Frankenstein again when Universal gets around to re-releasing the classic b&w horror movies on blu. But only because I'm such a huge horror buff. However it will have to be a huge leap in picture and sound over the dvd release.

It just so happens that I just watched Live Free or Die Hard on Blu-Ray last night (I've owned it since it came out, I just happened to decide to watch it last night).

The quality is awesome. I admit that I haven't seen the Unrated DVD version yet, and I am curious to check it out. But I saw the movie in the theater last summer, and was actually impressed by how good it was despite the PG-13 rating.

I would like to see the Unrated version sometime, but it sounds like it is overrated. I do think that the Blu-Ray version should have had both the PG-13 and Unrated versions all on one disc together. But, I am still happy with what I've got for now.
