Default Blu-ray booth at SinoCES getting good traffic

Small news, but every little bit is good:
Quote:
SinoCES 2008 kicked off Thursday at the seaside city of Qingdoa, also home of the 2008 Olympic sailing events. This year, more than 70,000 people are expected to attend the more than 450 exhibits aimed mostly at the domestic Chinese market. Concurrent with the expo, a conference session lineup including topics from green technology, design, call center management and the flat panel TV market are also being held.

Chinese manufacturers, such as Hisense, Haier and Changhong, dominated the show floor, but Japanese companies like Hitachi, Panasonic and Toshiba were also side-by-side with US-based companies including Dolby.

Flat panel TVs and cell phones, plus portable navigation devices and digital picture frames, drew most of the attendees’ attention, but major appliances, including air conditioners, also proved popular with the crowds. A booth showing Blu-ray hardware and software from a variety of companies brought in a steady stream of attendees. Pioneer’s Sumitaka Matsumura, noted that the Chinese Blu-ray market is still quite small, but growing.

The Chinese domestic market for consumer electronics is one of the fastest growing in the world and is expected to reach $69 billion in 2008. A GfK Group report states that by 2009 China will account for nearly 15-percent of global CE revenue (compared to North America’s 22-percent). In 2008 China will account for 18-percent of global demand for mobile phones, 17 percent of global demand for TVs, 15-percent of global demand for PCs and 8 percent of global demand for digital cameras, according to GfK.
