Default 60GB xbox 360's is official coming this August

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/...olestorage.htm

I just wanted to point out that the 20gb xbox 360 is being phased out (the 60gb is the same as the 20gb except for the storage compacity of the hd). The 20gb 360 is being sold for $299.99 (as many have been aware for weeks) and will stay at that price while supplies last. No word if the 60gb will be sold seperately (it's pretty obvious that they will eventually). The arcade & elite will still stay at the same price they currently are ($279 for the arcade & $450 for the elite).

Does this mean for the possibility of the Arcade model having at least a 20 gig drive?

Think about the 20GB PS3 owners having to delete mandatory game installs to make room for more game installs. Both consoles have their pros and cons. That's why I own both.

But will they have the "Jasper" board so they won't die from Red Ring disease?

Only with the official MS drives, not like the ps3 unfortunatly. I did read somewhere that someone took apart the drive bay thingy and was able to put in a bigger drive, I dont know if it worked though.

Seems like it would if you know what you're doing.

No, the 20gb hard drive is being discountinued. The arcade will continue the NOT have a hard drive but instead a 256mb membory card.

Yes, there's a few websites that detail how to do it. It sounds like the hardest part is making sure that you have the correct files on it that so it is recognized by the Xbox. Then there's questions on wether or not it is considered a "banned modification" since it's not a microsoft endorsed addition. With the failure rate of the Xbox being as high as it is, I don't think it's worth risking having to pay to get it repaired when it fails.

And is it possible to copy your 20Gb data over to your 120Gb drive? PS3 gives you a backup option, does the 360?

Yeah the 120gb drive comes with a special cable attachment to transfer all of your data over.

Or you could just use an external USB drive to store information on, but I personally like the 'all in one' setup. The 120gb drive is something I've had my eye on, but ultimately I don't think it's worth the money. I don't really download much anyway, and between the dozen or so demo's, all my (and my wife's) save-games, and the stuff I've purchased through live Iv'e still got 9 gigs left.

I'm not into downloading movies, and really that's the only practical application I can find for the larger drive since I just use the 360 as a media extender to my PC if there are pics or videos I want to see, or mp3s I want to hear.

Yeah a added 40gb to a drive is not the news x-box fans are looking for, they continue to stall on releasing a board that wont fry after a couple months of use. They probably have such a bulk amount of older hardware laying around that they rather continue making their customers send it in every 6 months for repair then to build the console right.

Mark my word, this is a huge blunder for MS, even on the Marketing / PR domain.

People were expecting a $299 360 Pro, even with a 60Go HDD, specially with the PS3 competition (check "PS3 news" on google, the big news of this day is the PS3 outselling the Xbox for 5 months in a row in 2008).

Now, setting the $299 at what will be perceived as a "clearance" price for the 20Go model, and keeping the 60Go at $349, is too little too late to ofset the new dynamic of the market.

PS3= Free Wifi + Blu Ray player
Xbox = ... 20Gb additional space for $50 less?

If the new PS3 SKU in august is confirmed, let's say a new 60Go SKU with Dualshock3 that'll replace the 40gb model, at $399, MS will look really foolish.

Oh, last news, MS is denying the new price and new model for Europeans.
They won't make many friends there

The 60GB will be sold seperate in October for $99.99, the 120 will be dropping to $149

You cannot swap in another 2.5" drive in any official manner

The 60GB will simply replace the 20GB in the Pro system. At manufacture the difference is only a few dollars, and they'll more than make that up selling DLC

The current Falcon boards that have been around since last fall won't fry, and the Jaspar 45nm boards should accompany the 60Gb versions. They are as RROD proof as anything is going to get.
