BD movies in Region B only. (Was "BD movies in PAL only") - Blu-ray Forum

Am I the only one who is frustrated by this? For example...The Fog and Escape from New York are released in the UK as BD but not in the states (where they were produced). I guess I'm more jealous that frustrated. I don't know. Anyone know why this is happening?

There's lots of music and video that is only available in the US first and/or only, as well, so I'm sure they feel the same.

I didn't think it was a PAL vs NTSC issue since it is irrelevant for HD but a region coding issue.

If it makes you feel any better, there are quite a few BD discs out that are available in the US but not here. Even worse, some of them are region coded so we even if we import them, we can't play them.

it has to do with distribution rights... Separate companies own the rights to these films in different parts of the world, so they can release them "whenever" they want
