I think a lot of people were ready to move on from COD 4 and is there anything better to move onto right now?

Vastly superior to the already positive estimations for the PS3, and under estimations for the 360. Lookin' good. And I believe that the MGS4 effect will continue over July imo.
Now if we could have a killer title like, I dunno... WIPEOUT HD???, in August, that 'd be a nice pick up.

Sept. already looks good, and it only get better from there.

MGS 3 had 800k in 2 months of year-end (november to december)

then Square Enix. can you me reiterate the reason for FF13? No need I know already

I still doubt Gears 2 will be a platform mover. Halo 2 wasn't, relatively speaking, because most people who bought Halo 2 had an Xbox for Halo.

I can see it possibly happening. Doubt much of a platform mover though to be honest as you say [it is a sequel].

I'm mostly using this as an excuse to relate my fun story of how the retail store I was working when Halo 2 came out had 200 copies of Halo 2 in stock for a year... All with the nice orange tape saying "DO NOT DISPLAY BEFORE" from the initial shipment.

Halo 3, I understand, did better [not that Halo 2 didn't do well, it just ... was expected to have sold quantities in excess of Harry Potter books].

Well, it's not specific to Gears/Halo. The second version of anything to reach a platform seems to sell much fewer consoles.

Final Fantasy XII was a blip on the radar for the PS2 but Final Fantasy X sold quite a bunch.

Ditto with Gran Turismo 3 and 4.

It's the nature of the beast.
