Default The Agency Official Thread - Canceled

The Agency is a spy based mmo game for Playstation 3

You make your own character and take on a vary of roles from Spec Ops to Medic, you get assigned a suit which gives you a special ability and a weapon which is kinda obvious.

Its due for release in december 2008

I'm not really into MMO games but I'm kinda interested in this one. Might be worth getting. Anyone know if this game is going to have monthly fees?

The DC universe looks interesting too.

Last I heard, The Agency won't have monthly fees, but I guess things can always change. It seems that Sony markets the PSN as being free to play, and this would sort of go against that, even though people generally would expect to pay for MMOs.

Since I feel like making up numbers, the chances of these games having monthly fees:

The Agency..... 10%
MAG..................5%
DC Universe......75%

Its probably more like,

The Agency..... 100%
MAG..................50%
DC Universe......100%

I doubt any SOE game won't have a monthly fee, unsure about MAG though

I think if they make the PC version have charges and the PS3 not that would be a large selling point but I seriously doubt MAG will have any charges as its not out on PC

Massive Multiplayer Online. An example is world of warcraft, basicly its like a normal online game where theres 32 players theres 2000 and you create your own character and story that exist in a world filled with other players

I thought I read that The Agency would rely on micro transactions, if that is so, it could pave the way for there being no monthly fee. The DCU game will more than likely be subscription based.

But do you really get a story or it still like multi-player games like Resistance that is kill everyone, catch the flag...?

It's more like you have "missions" or "quests", and as your character gets stronger/gain levels, you have access to more Gear, more zones/ sites of interest/ higher level mission/ quests / "raid Bosses" (in the Agency context, I imagine taking on very powerful vilains needing several other spies?)

If the Agency integrates PvP, it would also have the option of having "zones" where players can attack/shoot each other. Also in the context of the Agency, I imagine that it would be team based (Good spies vs Bad spies).

Overall, the PC gamers will only have an unfair advantage. There is only one thing that can correct this and thats either have connecting a keyboard and mouse to the PS3 or have the joypad only playable on the PC (that would never happen), and even that would be hacked. I'd say, just leave it be and have the Agency seperate from platforms when playing online.

And of course it could easily be accomplished. FFXI has cross platform play between PC, PS2, and XBox 360.

Earlier this week we got the good news that SOE's MMO The Agency wasn't canceled, but where's the game been? In hiding, apparently. According to the game's lead designer Hal Milton, after the CES demo was released earlier this year the developers went into full-on content creation mode.

We went kind of intentionally dark after CES, we've been pretty quiet this year so we could go heads-down on the content. In the world of MMOs and triple-A game development we are actually a pretty reasonably-sized team. We're slightly under a hundred people. I know sports titles and other games that have much larger teams than that for 'offline' games. We're all just concentrating on getting our tools online and building as much content as possible – making sure that content is actually fun.

This explains why we've not seen anything other than said demo at E3, Leipzig, and the SOE Fan Faire. So when do we see more? Milton teases that we should be seeing something at the "'small' shows next summer, the ones they throw every year." Hmm, what shows could he mean?

IGN has this game for Q1 2009. Looks like it's middle of next year at the earliest.

I'll need to see a lot more to get interested in this game though. As for MAG, LOL. Playing 256-player battles is stupid. Lots of frustration and lag. Yummy.

I have been waiting for this game for some time now, and I think my anticipation has died down a bit now. I just hope they don't put a monthly charge on it. I'm willing to pay for microtransactions for the game, but monthly charges are too much.

In Zipper I trust, MAG is the other big shooter for the PS3 in '09.
