Ok so here is my setup - PS3 with newest firmware, Xbox 360 Elite with newest firmware, Wii with newest firmware, monoprice 5 port HDMI switch and a Pioneer 5040HD Plasma.
Now I was able to watch Blurays from my PS3 and use the PS3 fine before. All of a sudden I can't use it period. No picture, no sound. My Xbox also will not play DVD or movies I downloaded previously. Says can't find secure HDCP link. Now did some updates to the Xbox and PS3 basically kill my HDMI connection? My TV is not 1080P but 1080i. I'm not sure if my Pioneer 5040HD is even HDCP compliant. I returned my PS3 to Sony under warranty for another (40gb) and received a new (refurbished 80gb) yesterday but HDMI still does not work. The supplied A/V cables work for the PS3. Any help or suggestions? |

the A/V cable that is supplied with the PS3 works fine. So the PS3 works, not so sure about the HDMI port though. Or if the A/V portion of the PS3 works, should the HDMI also? Could it be that my TV is not HDCP compliant? But if so, why would it work before? Could the recent firmware upgrade kill the HDMI connection? Seems weird that my Xbox also is not able to play regular DVD's because it says unable to find secure HDCP connection. It was able to play DVD's previously.

How many HDMI connections you have? Did you try it on both? Could be a faulty HDMI port.
Did you try getting a new HDMI cable and using it? Cables can be the culprit. Did you try bringing your PS3/360 to a friend's place (or a retailer under the guise of buying a new HDTV) with a HDTV with HDMI and connecting the console? That would rule out if it's the consoles and not the HDTV. If you tried the third and it works, then you have no option but to run using component cables. If you tried the first and it fails, run component. Before deciding to ditch your HDTV and get a new one, you must try the third option to eliminate the possibilities. fuad |

I didn't see this suggested but please forgive if you tried this or it has been recommended. Turn off the PS3 with the power switch on the back and wait a few secs then turn it back on; press and hold the power on button on the front top next to where the discs load until it quick double-beeps. This should reset the video (at least) to default an allow it "find" the auto settings for your display. From there you should be able to program the settings to your liking.
Good luck! |

So you updated both consoles and both, connected directly to the TV through HDMI say no HDCP? I would check the TV first. Get someone else to bring their PS3 or xBox and check your TV maybe? (If they work directly with it then check through the switcher too just in case ). Then you can concentrate your troubleshooting on your consoles.

*UPDATE*
So I took both consoles, my PS3 and Xbox 360 to a friend's house with my HDMI cables. Both work! So something is up with my TV. ![]() Will running the PS3 with component cables be worse than HDMI at 1080i? Guess I'll have to upgrade my TV at some point or call Pioneer to see if there is some sort of update for the old 5040HD sets. |

Maybe for some reason the PS3 is set to 1080p? your TV is only 720p/1080i also did you change the TV to the HDMI inputs? (I know thats a dumb question, but gotta ask) |

Yea the TV is set to the HDMI inputs because I have a switch that handles the Cable Box, Xbox 360 and the PS3. The cable box and Xbox work fine, except that the Xbox won't play regular DVD's anymore. Says can't find a secure HDCP link. PS3 just won't play period. Could it be the monoprice switch? I did connect the PS3 directly to the TV and it didn't work. When I hooked up the PS3 to my friend's TV it came right up no problem.
Just wierd because everything worked fine before then just one day the PS3 had no picture and no sound and the Xbox would not play regular DVD or any HD trailers that I had downloaded. |
