The reason Shane was questioning the event, was due to plans for large announcements regarding the Blu-ray release of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. Square could possibly be announcing a remake of Final Fantasy VII for PS3, a Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children game for PS3, Final Fantasy Versus XIII on PS3, or another brand new title.

I dont trust 1up.com but if it is true I will get it. Hope KH X is still PS3 exclusive.

Watch it'll be some announcement like Dirge of Cerberus 2, and watch as the entire world doesn't care.

The statement from Hashimoto didn't say that this is good news for Sony, all he said is that it'll be a "shocking announcement" on August 2nd or 3rd. It could just be as easily a shocking pro-Microsoft announcement.

Makes it doubtful it has anything to do with FFXIII vs. either, considering I doubt there's anything they could post about that that would be shocking, unless it was like "It's done, and coming out tomorrow!"

While it could be, no spinoff is going to "swing the pendulum back to the PS3".

I really don't understand the hype for a FF7 remake...

Sure, it still is one of the biggest games, but come on... IT IS OLD!

I would see no reason it short of containing EVERY FF game made...

I dont think any game has been bigger yet (RPG wise). I would love to stick 100 hours into that puppy again

It was the best FF story by far, gritty and not as "PC" as the rest. Love it.

I wouldn't mind a remake of Final Fantasy VII (Not the Dirge of whatever) even though I never finished it. The PS One version always froze on me so I gave up on it. A remake for the PS3 would be dramatically better.

I kinda liked it, but I am not a fan of having a fixed amount of places to visit.
I hated the whole "One Path only" of Final Fantasy X and 12. I liked flying my airship around a "world" and having a little bit of freedom like in past Final Fantasies!

Ok fine. It sold roughly 50% more than Final Fantasy 6 did, including remakes.

No other FF game came within 3 million copies of Final Fantasy 7.

I for one loved 12 more then any other FF. Sales be damned. Oh and you could still go back to previous areas (which were all very big and plenty to explore) in 12 but I know what you mean by the airship thing. Sure it would have been nice to have the whole world but lets not forget even the PS2 can only do so much. I can't even imagine how much more 12 can be on the PS3.

12 represented what RPG's really always have meant to be, real-time. None of ths ATB nonsense ( it only exists due to the hardware restraints of days gone by). Yeah i'm sure a monster is just going to wait for his turn to kill me right?

FF7 sold the best, and it also has one of the best storyline.

I think you need to reread the article. Supposedly the Square-Enix reps said that the FF13 announcement "swung the ball" to MS and this new announcement would swing it back to Sony.

Part of Microsoft's bribe was probably forcing Square not to mention the big pro-Playstation announcement at E3 to help overshadow what little they had to show and make the gaming public think they won E3 and the console war with the announcement

I hope Shin-Ra comes back.

FF12 isn't realtime, the only difference between it and previous Final Fantasy battle systems is that you can move your characters around while battling. That's it.

It's still ATB (Active Time Battle) Even FFXIII is still ATB

And if you dont like the ATB system used in JRPGs go play an American RPG or Zelda or something else. ATB will always be a part of JRPGs

This is the one and only site which claims that it will swing the pendulum back to Sony (or other sites referencing this one).

Excuse me if I'm not going to just believe 1up's claims given Square's recent posture.
