I'd personally go with the panny plasma, you won't regret it, the only way to get great black levels.

If you will mainly be watching movies I would get the Plasma.
I've actually seen that model in action and it has excellent picture quality!

Default Plasma over LCD?

alright if you would have asked me last month if i would rather go with a LCD or plasma no doubt in my mind i would have gone with a LCD. returning my SAM LN32a650 (i guess i have to change my name) being to expensive $1200
i was in a deadlock between the Sam LN40A550 and the PAN TH-42PZ80U. I did research on the two for a week and today i went to Best Buy and bought the panasonic. No doubt in my mind they are both good TV's but this TV was highly recommended by you good people I needed a bigger TV and when i went to Best Buy the picture really stood out. I guess i was like more then half the people believing that Plasmas suck and they die fast they have burn in and reflect glare alot, I guess all common misconceptions (one thing though they are pretty heavy) I hope this TV works out good and lasts me for a while. thanks for your advice guys you make shopping a hell of a lot easier

I helped my dad buy a panny 50pz85. Plasma looks a hell of a lot better than LCD, I don't understand all the love for LCD.

I know what you mean. I spent some time over at AVS Forum looking for a good, cheap subwoofer, and in no time at all, I'm trying to justify spending $700! These websites have that effect about them...

Panasonic all the way! I upgraded from the 6 series to the TH-42PX75U a few months back and am very happy with it. I understand the 8-series to be even better!

I've been a HT junkie since 92, this site and AVS let me know that I am not alone, and it's ok if I don't get better.
