I have a couple of issues that have me really hacked. I bought a used Samsung BD-P1000. Updated to the latest firmware (1.6). Now I get no DD or DTS on my reciever. Everything is hooked up correctly w/ digital cable (didn't matter if I used digital coax or optical). I have no problems w/ my HD-DVD player...why so much with Blu-ray? Also, it gets really warm. Having problems with movies skipping at random points during play. But if it's been on a while, it will usually skip pretty early on in the movie. My wife's pissed, and I don't know what to tell her.
Incidentally, I have a Pioneer VSX-816 in 7.1 audio...no HDMI, TrueHD, or DTS HD...just DTS, DTS Neo, DTS Discreet, DD, and DD EX. It's a couple of years old. But I should at least be getting the older audio formats coming thru. This BD player seems pretty flaky. Also, I have a 1080p 46" Samsung LCD that I got at BB. LATEST NEWSFLASH: Got the DD and DTS working by changing to bitstream instead of PCM. Still have playing issues though. Thanks in advance for any help. Unfortunately that is a very old BD player. Many of them were flaky, especially with firmware issues. I've never had that player but I'm not sure how well it handles the most recent Blu-ray releases, particularly the ones with heavy BD-Java implementation or profile 1.1 features. It should play most Blu-rays though and it sounds possibly that the player is going bad.

So, it appears to be the cooling fan in back not turning on anymore and the unit overheating, not some other component. I've put a laptop "chill mat" under it until I can find another fan to fit in place of the original. That seems to be working fine for the moment. Thanks for the response though. So far, the new 1.6 FW seems to be working fine. Perhaps I don't have an over-priced trout-line weight after all.
