This is from Peter Bracke

The Departed excel HD-DVD in sound Quality hey you HD-DVD fans finally we get prove that PCM sound is and is slightly better then DolbyTHD.

PQ quality is Xerox like HD-DVD.

Hopefully Chad will revise this title as the soonest i would like to hear his comments. Another winner for Blu-ray Fans

now the question came what if Supermans return has been released using PCM and what if VC-1 is optimised for Blu-ray and not a copy from HD-DVD.

The result will be a winner .

Enjoy it and hopefully Warner Bros are listenning to me and release titles promise us to catch later sure in PCM sound.

come on Warner we are waiting for you this is most have title and more to come.

I think I'm done with Mr. Bracke. He states in the review that the PCM is better but just can't bring himself to rate it higher.

PCM can't possibly be better sounding....there bit for bit identical....because Mr 10% said so

If Bracke says theres a slight difference.....theres probably a little more than a slight difference.

hey BostonHD,

Head over to YouTube.com and type in 'Fitzy's Wicked Pissah Reviews'. Click on the one from October 6th of last year. I think you'll appreciate this as much as I did (I live in Melrose).

All I need to complete my Boston BR collection are Mystic River and Good Will Hunting.

OK.... BUY IT!!! Movie is awesome...Unbelievable how it just keeps changing and changing. I love it!! I'm am definately going to watch it again over the weekend. I buy blu-ray's that I know i'll watch more than a couple times. And this one is one. Great Transfer to Blu-Ray. The 2:35:1 is very wide-screen, but that's why they call it wide-screen. If you don't have surround sound... you're not missing out on much. That's the biggest weakness of the blu-ray.

I agree with this about the picture and sound ratings here...

Watched it last night. Another winner from Warners. Wish it had the 'Scorsese on Scorsese' doc on the disc. But hey, that is what Netflix is for!

Well, looks like the limited capacity of HD DVD strikes again!

Quote:
Note: The standard-def DVD release of 'The Departed' also includes an 85-minute documentary, "Scorsese on Scorsese," which has been dropped from both the Blu-ray and HD DVD versions. However, this extra was produced in 2004 for the Turner Classic Movies network, long before the director started work on 'The Departed.' It also still plays on cable, so its exclusion here is hardly fatal
Still sucks the DVD version has something the HD formats do not. Of course, Warner could have used the extra 25GB or so (allowing for the difference between TrueHD and PCM encodings) to give it to the BD folks, especially since we were cheated out of uncompressed audio or IME on a couple other Warner titles.

Well actually, that would be the "weakness" of the sound design/sound mix...and not Blu-ray. If it's not there from the beginning, it's not much you could do.

I didn't find this movie to be the type to show off blu-ray's capabilities. But it was a great movie story wise!
