Speaker Auto-Configuration question! - Blu-ray Forum

Hi all,

I'm coming here (once again), because this forum has without a doubt the most relevant, interesting and (I think) accurate information about the whole Home Theatre experience.

My question is a simple one, but I'd love your opinion. A buddy of mine just bought the same receiver as I (see sig), but he only has a 2-channel setup for now. Is it possible or worth it to run the Auto-Configuration setup in this case?

Yes and yes....
Letting the system know what speakers are hooked up is only slightly less important than letting the receiver know what speakers are NOT hooked up.
It will then redirect the center, surrounds and Bass to the Front pair.

It'd be good for speakers distance calculations. Crossovers, equalizer settings, and other things of that nature might be a bit off to him aurally. That part is personal.

is it 2 channel or 2.1?

does he have a sub in this case? if so, it would also know which frequencies to send to the subwoofer to create a smoother er... (sorry no coffee yet) i forgot the right term... to create a smoother 'transition' (?) from the fronts to the sub...

*sigh* must get coffee...

No sub....it's purely 2-channel for the moment.

or you can go manual and input the distance of your speakers, and triangulate the listening spot.

but i think thats what the auto calibrations there for right?

I think I'll do a simple "auto-calibration" for his set-up. That should be fine. He can always adjust it as he adds more speakers and a sub.
