Kung Fu Panda BD in Q4! - Blu-ray Forum

OK. Kung Fu Panda is kicking its way to Blu-ray in Q4. However, Dreamworks cannot discuss too many details due to the To$h payoff. You can bet your underwear that DW is still getting some coin out of that deal. From HMM:

DreamWorks Animation SKG will begin releasing its titles on Blu-ray Disc during the fourth quarter, starting with its summer theatrical hit Kung Fu Panda, CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg said July 29 while reporting the company’s second quarter 2008 earnings.

However, few other Blu-ray details were divulged by the company, due to the HD DVD agreement DreamWorks Animation struck with Toshiba before the end of the format war.

“We’re trying to walk a reasonable line of giving you the information, sort of broadly speaking in our releases … and trying to honor the confidentiality agreement we have with Toshiba,” said company CFO Lew Coleman. “There’s not much else to say.”

Katzenberg added, “We will be releasing Kung Fu Panda on Blu-ray in the fourth quarter. We are making our product available and will aggressively promote and market our product on the Blu-ray format.”

The format war BS notwithstanding, I admire Katzenberg's career, however, I have to laugh at how things change:

Damn, sucks about that whole confidentiality thing, so no details, but I'm glad to hear releases are coming. And it at least seems they WANT to talk about them.

Sooooo f*cking stupid that they can't announce details but tell us that it's coming out! That makes no sense at all, if it's coming out anyway then why can't they tell us details. Toshiba needs to pull their heads outta their tw@ts if they still won't let them talk.

I just saw this movie this past weekend on during my airplane ride to Nagoya and loved it. I was told to wait for the DVD release but from what I saw I would have paid to see this in the theater. Day 1 pickup for me!

Haven't seen it, but will be an easy blind buy for me, Bee Movie was encoded with TrueHD audio so there is good hope for Panda

Day 1 purchase for me. i was avoiding it, until I heard some decent reviews. Went myself, and loved it WAY more than expected. I'd feel comfortable putting it among my favorite of these types.

I will be picking this up on day 1 I loved the movie and it had a great voice cast. It was a fun and entertaining movie and I think that people who are on the fence about watching this movie should watch it they will most likely enjoy themselves.

Yup! day 1 purchase for me too. i took my 4year old son to see this at the theatre and he loved it. its the first picture he has ever sat through without getting a bit bored and restless. Plenty here for adults too, good comedy great action and very colourfull will look fantastic in HD
