Smile The Who: Kilburn (1977) blu-ray release

I just got the info from Image Entertainmnet website. No details yet. I'm just happy with another music title. Btw, anyone know about the concert? Is it worth getting?

They are one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time. For over four decades, they have changed modern music as we know it. But some of their most famous performances have never been released... until now. On December 15, 1977, The Who performed before a select invited audience at the Gaumont State Theatre in Kilburn, North London, to record a concert for Jeff Stein's film, The Kids Are Alright, which turned out to be one of the last live performances by drummer Keith Moon. Shot in 35mm, this holy grail for fans has been digitally restored and remastered in high-definitiion for the ultimate The Who experience. This set also includes The Who's powerhouse London Coliseum gig from 1969, a never-before-seen rarity and one of the band's personal favorites. Take an amazing journey with The Who like you've never seen or heard them before, featuring their greatest hits and hours of incredible footage! It's the rock discovery of the year!
Two incredible concerts - totaling 138 minutes!
Kilburn Songs:
  • "Can't Explain"
  • "Substitute,"
  • "Baba O'Reilly (Teenage Wasteland),"
  • "My Wife / Going Mobile,"
  • "Behind Blue Eyes,"
  • "Dreaming from the Waist,"
  • "Pinball Wizard,"
  • "I'm Free,"
  • "Tommy's Holiday Camp,"
  • "Summertime Blues,"
  • "Shakin' All Over,"
  • "My Generation,"
  • "Join Together,"
  • "Who Are You?,"
  • "Won't Get Fooled Again."
London Coliseum Songs:
  • "Heaven and Hell,"
  • "Can't Explain,"
  • "Fortune Teller,"
  • "Tattoo,"
  • "Young Man Blues,"
  • "A Quick One While He's Away,"
  • "Happy Jack," "I'm a Boy,"
  • "I'm Free,"
  • "Tommy's Holiday Camp,"
  • "See Me, Feel Me,"
  • "Summertime Blues,"
  • "Shakin' All Over,"
  • "My Generation"
Plus 70 minutes of rare Coliseum bonus tracks and extended versions including the first-ever long performance of “Tommy.” Includes an extensive collectible booklet featuring liner notes by The Who: Maximum R&B author Richard Barnes, The Who art director and designer Richard Evans, former Spin and Vibe editor Alan Light, and Nigel Sinclair.

Holy crap ... thanks for posting that. (Big Who fan here.)

Text seems to imply it's a previously unreleased live show; I know I've never seen it.

Thanks for the info. "Who Are You" sounds good! I will compare this concert to their latest one they did for LIVE 8.

I'm watching the who @ killburn as i type first thing that struck me is the color just not used to rock solid color on footage of this age
film grain is appropriate to the material it's present but not overwellming
some folks who have seen the police BD this week might find this lacking
in detail not taking into account 31 years of technology difference but as a
fan of the Who I'm very pleased with what I'm seeing audio is crisp and well placed left to right but nothing in the rears to speak of a bit of echo or fan noise. now who @ the coliseum i was expecting to be poor and yeah it's rough real rough being shot on 16mm lots of grain remember your parents old home movies, audio fairs better but your watching this for the performance as the band feels it's one of their best and i would agree, so imho if your a fan a must have for everyone else rent it first.

Boy, I'm watching this right now and all I can say is I don't think any true fan of The Who will be disappointed. Just to have an archival concert like this survive for so long and be in this good of condition is a miracle if you ask me. The picture is good, the sound is good and we've got Keith Moon and John Entwistle back again. And Moon really appears to be having a great time throughout in his silk purple shirt with stars.

I'm watching this Blu-ray now. Getting to see these shows from back in their heyday is amazing and I am very happy with my purchase. The AQ on the '77 concert is great. The PQ is something similar to the Live at Donington AC-DC Blu-ray I would say. The AC-DC one is a little better though. The '69 concert sounds pretty good but of course the PQ is pretty bad for HD. Just being able to see it though from way back then in worth it IMO.

Default Who at Kilburn Quality question

They've got The Who Live At Kilburn for 12.99 @ Tower.com,how is the PQ,Audio and extras!!! I heard that there is two concerts on the disc the Kilburn one and a old vintage concert from the 60's,seems like a good deal! Nobody beats the skins like the late Keith("The Loon") Moon! He cant be replaced, the same goes for John("Thunderfingers")Entwistle! Daltrey and Townsend are still touring w/ other musicians, they should now be called "The Two"! Heck the DVD is 13.99,the Blu is actually a dollar cheaper than the DVD,that's they way it should be!!!

The concert is excellent, the PQ is pretty solid for a concert filmed in the 70's and the audio is top-notch plus as you said, you get a full second concert as an extra (although the quality isn't as good).

All in all, for that price, you should definitely pick it up

Do not buy it expecting decent picture quality. The vintage concert from the 60's looks absolutely hideous and below dvd quality. The Kilburn footage looks very much like a concert shot in the 70's should look. Audio is very good though and worth the upgrade over dvd quality.

Any reason why 35 mm film stock was transferred to 1080i/30 fps? 1080p/24 fps would've been possible.
