I just bought a blu-ray player and wanted to try it out using my projector (atleast until my Auqos 1080p HDTV comes in). Well, my projector handles 1080i and my projection screen is standard (not wide screen).
All is fine when I play regular Dvds...I can change the aspect ratio to 16:9 or 4:3 letterbox through the blu-ray player and the picture fits the screen (no over-projection). When I play blu-ray discs it will only play in wide screen and when I change the aspect ratio through the player, nothing happens. I tried changing it through the projector, but the function does not work when using the HDMI input. Any ideas? ![]() |

I don't know anything about projectors but, as you have said you will at best get 1080i, I would suggest using different cables. You can still use component cables and get 1080i out, it just means you have to run the audio cables as well. It may not be the perfect fix, but it should take care of your problem. No point getting a headache over a temporary situation.

So when you test out the aspect ratio on DVD, of course it will work because the video stored on DVDs are stretched to begin with. The player THEN compresses it to give you the correct video. HD video on Blu-ray Disc (BD) are not stored in anamorphic. They are stored at 1920x1080 (i/p). So a video concert shot on HD video is going to "fill up the screen" but a movie like Batman Begins will not as its aspect ratio is 2.40:1 instead of 16:9. fuad |
