Question BD+ Details

Can anyone point me to technical details and support level for BD+? Specifically I'd like to read up on how it works technical wise and was it required in the core BD spec or will firmware updates be required if a movie is released with BD+?

AFAIK, nothing has been made public. One reason being that AACS is public and look at the mess they are in

Hmm, security by obscurity never lasts. I hope they make it public and that it eases studios' minds.

I think the studios have people that have been told all about it.

BD+ is something for the future. It's another layer that can be introduced if needed.

People assume it is needed now. But, it isn't. The AACS-LA needs to revoke the WinDVD-HD vendor key, and require some proof they have closed the hole in their software before issuing another one.

AACS is fully intact. The player has to be able to decode data, and all that has happened is that the vendor key for one player is compromised.

With DVD, the hackers did something similar with the Xing software DVD-player. But, the twist was that they were able to guess a whole bunch of other vendor keys. The keys themselves were stupidly constructed. With so many slots in the media key block compromised, it wasn't feasible to revoke and reissue vendor keys. Especially since a defect in CSS itself was the cause of the other keys other than Xing's being compromised.

With AACS all the other vendor keys are safe. The whole issue is with one software player. If the studios are changing release plans because of that, then we should all be demanding the immediate revokation of the WinDVD vendor key. One software player mostly used by hackers and thieves shouldn't be stopping the rest of us getting content.
