Hey guys
I recently ordered a new 40" 1080p Samsung LE40A656A, it's due to be delivered tommorrow. Review One of the things I want to be able to do is run my computer on the screen, but the screen lacks a DVI port, and I don't really wanna use the VGA port. My question is, could I purchase one of those DVI to HDMI cables, and just connect it to my computers DVI port, then straight into one of the screens HDMI ports? then just select HDMI input on the screen? Pretty noobish question I know lol, just wanna be sure. Thanks. PS. My graphics card is capable of 1080p. |

there will be no difference in the picture you will get from HDMI-DVI over VGA *EDIT*(unless of course the TV can't accept a 1080 signal through VGA)
but if you want to do it then give 'er... i mean you could always try both ways and return one cable, keep the one that works best in your eyes Last edited by allstar780; 08-04-2008 at 07:44 AM. |

But isn't VGA an Analog signal, meaning loss of signal when converted, whereas HDMI/DVI is pure digital which wont have to be converted, resulting in no loss of signal?
I could be speaking crap, but i'm pretty sure thats what I have been told for the past 3 years of college. |

Yes, you can go...
Computer : DVI --------- HDMI : TV That's what I'm currently doing running to my 40"er and it looks great. Make sure you set that HDMI input to 1:1 pixel mapping so the image is crisp. Plug both ends in, restart your computer, and you know the rest. |

I run a VGA cable 35 feet from my computer to my TV. There's little to no signal disruption. Do you have a blu-ray player in your computer? If you intend to run most of your HD media through your computer, then I would go with the digital line for distances greater than 20 feet.
Otherwise, VGA works flawlessly. If you have a stand alone Blu-Ray player or a PS3 and need the computer to render various other videos (those which arent of *top* quality) no need to worry about VGA's output. |
