Default Need help switching video sources

Don't know where else to post this, but I need help with my ps3. I'm currently using HDMI and want to switch to component on another tv. I don't know how. Switching in the settings doesn't really do anything as switching to component while hdmi is hooked up (so I can see what i'm doing...) just goes to a black screen which will reset eventually. How am I supposed to do this? Am I missing something obvious?

Why can't it just be like the 360 and automatically detect what's plugged into the Fn thing? I can't imagine that would take a huge chunk of time and money out of their pocket... at first I thought it was just a defective ps3 until my friend tested his and the same thing happened.

Anyways, now i'm just ranting. Any help would be much appreciated.

Plug the PS3 in, hold down the power button to turn it on until it beeps twice, and then it will display in 480i, and then you can go to your settings and go to component.

Why can't it just figure it out automatically like the 360, I just don't understand. o_0

Oh well, thank you very much for the tip. Will try it out when I get home.
