Default Playing HD/SD MPEG files on BD player from BD-RE data disk?

Playing HD/SD MPEG files on BD player from BD-RE data disk?

Has anybody tried to play HD/SD MPEG files on stand alone BD player (like Philips or Samsung) from BD-RE/R disk burned as data disk?

This is what I am talking about:

I got PS3. It can play HD/SD MPEG files from BD-RE disk burned as data disk.

HD MPEG files are:

1. HDV .M2T files (1440x1080i with MPEG audio). Plays great.
2. HDTV .TS files (1920x1080i/p with DD audio, captured from Comcast DVR). There is an issue.

The issue with HDTV .TS files is that they have to be converted to HD Program Stream files with .MPG extension in order to get audio. And still PS3 doesn't play DD 5.1 surround sound track, but downconverts it to DD 2/0 channels.

SD MPEG files are:

1. SD .MPG files (720x480 with DD audio). The same thing: PS3 doesn't play DD 5.1 surround sound track, but downconverts it to DD 2/0 channels.

So, my question is about other stand alones: can they play HD/SD MPEG files from BD-RE data disk?

Thanks.

I think that the short answer is no.

I have been studying for some time what can be done to get TS files to play on the Panasonic player.

So far the only good answer is to use DVDit Pro HD.

It seems to accept some TS and master them to BD without recoding the video. Roxio is not being helpful by specifying what the MPEG2 video parameters must be to be compliant. But I am hoping to work that out myself...

Thanks phloyd,

So, PS3 is the king in terms of playing media files from data disks and external hard drives.
Now we just need Sony to fix firmware to recognize TS files and allow playback of AC3 5.1 surround audio tracks in those files.
And also to allow playback of BDMV authored disks on BD-R/RE.
