I was wondering for those of you that have THX certified recievers, when is a good time to use the THX soundfields? I have an Onkyo 805 and there are a few different THX settings that you can use, are you supposed to use them when playing a THX Dvd or whenever they put out THX BD's? I just don't understand when to use those soundfields, is it better than the new HD codecs that are out now on Blu-ray's? Any opinions out there?

From looking at your signature your hardware isn't THX certified anyway so I really wouldn't be too worried about it.
Use whatever mode sounds good to your ears. Here's a link to verify what is and isn't certified. http://www.thx.com/products/home/speakers.html |

That means nothing, it's like running a Pinto off of premium gas. Without the rest of the hardware <speakers> in your setup being THX certified you're really gaining 0 benefit from the Onkyos THX certification. Like I said, use whatever sounds good to you. |

its also based on their testings, and their setups. not necessarily saying that anything thx certified should ALWAYS be the way to go, its a suggestion. its a guideline for those who arent knowleadable about ht setups to follow or pattern their setup towards, but not necessarily to adhere to.

That's not true at all, the THX certification has plenty to do with how the receiver operates and the Ultra2 certification ensures that even with all 8 channels driven to the max that the 140w/ch power rating is honest and that THD is still at an acceptable level.

I should have been more clear, he's asking how he is supposed to know when to use the THX sound fields, as per:

So stressing over not knowing when to use them on your Klipsch F-3's and Bose surrounds seems a little pointless to me. What I am saying is that without running a THX optimized system, like the Klipsch THX home theater, you're not gaining full benefit from the THX, so don't worry about when you're supposed to or not supposed to use it, use it whenever you think it makes something sound better. That make it a little more clear for you? |
