Default PS3 New Hard Drive Questions

Hey peeps. Im thinking of possibly upgrading to a higher GB and would rather do it now before i put too much stuff on there. Anyways, does anyone know a good site to get this from? Also, have you had any problems with doing this, or anything that I should know about before i do this? Thanks again.

I got mine from memoryexpress.com Stargate is a good brand, that's the brand in your PS3 currently.

Careful when removing the screws that you don't strip them, they're usually in there pretty tight. Use the right sized philips screw driver.

That's all the tips I can think of. Hope it helps!

Thanks, one more question. Which type of hard drive would it be? Serial ATA, IDE...?

7200RPM works too. General concensus though is that the improved speed isn't big enough to justify the higher cost. You will notice installs and other HDD instense operations go a bit faster though.

I also use Newegg for all my computer-related purchases. I highly recommend them.

2.5" SATA 5400rpm.

7200 rpm works too and is a little faster, but on the downside your PS3 will get hotter.

and you should have a flamethrower and try to melt those screws off, because they are a b1tch. had to get a pair of wire cutters, dig into the metal of the screw and twist to get it loose.

it does work but i've heard of overheating issues with this. i wouldn't recommend getting a 7200RPM. it doesn't make that much of a difference any way IMO.

The heat thing is actually not a problem either. It doesn't cause problems, we just all initially thought it might. The real issue is the lack of benefits for the increased price.
I'd stick with 5400rpm too (like I did), but if you decide to go 7200rpm, don't worry it won't break your PS3.

Does the Cache Buffer size matter? I see some are 8, some are 16... I guess there is more to this than i realized. Not the most knowledgeable with computer stuff...

More is better. I think the standard is 8MB on the PS3. Actually I haven't seen any 2.5" SATA drives with 16MB.
