Default Headphones for gaming and tv/Bluray viewing

I am looking for a good pair of headphones for PS3 gaming and viewing TV/Blu-ray at home. I am looking at the Sennheiser models: HD515, HD 280 Pro, and the HD 485. Does anyone have a preference or review of these? My ultimate goal is the Pioneer wireless Dolby digital set but they are too expensive for me right now. I am trying to stay between $70-100. Hopefully more toward the low end of that range. I also have another question. I am thinking about hooking up to online gaming wit the PS3 and was wondering if there is a head set that would work for that purpose besides the one ear kind since I cannot turn the stereo up at night. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I second this...I have two pairs, one for home and one for work. Both wireless and, at home I can go anywhere without a problem and still hear what is on or what is playing. I absolutely love them. They are a bit expensive but very much worth it. If you do some price searching, you can get a good deal. I got my second pair on amazon thru a subsidiary shop.

Not sure how the PS3 does the headset...in game chat thing but, for XBL, the sound is separated. If you plug the headset in, all chat only goes thru the headset and the gaming volume comes from the main speakers. If you don't have the headset on, all sound including chat goes thru the main speakers. Not sure if this is what you are trying to have answered. Basically, if you want sound and the ability to chat, I think you would have to double up on devices.

You would probrably be better answered by people in the PS3 gaming section, I would recommend Sennheiser, or Grado headsets, but for gaming types - other factors are involved. Your more apt to get responses from audio type people in this forum (gamers tend to have a different set of standards and demands)
As to your second question....This would definately put this thread in the PS3 Gaming section of Blu-ray.com. Sorry, I couldn't help you past question #1

I would go with Sennheider or AKG. I can't suggest Grado, even though I am a big fan, because from experience their phones are only good for music.

There's the first evidence - I'm now identified as a passive or non gamer - but an avid music listener

No. Lets not.. I'd recommend a used pair of 80's AKG models..Best bang for the buck you can find.

I use Ultrasone HFI-700's for all my PC gaming, console gaming, Blu-ray watching, and music listening. They are very versatile for home applications, but a little more than the range you listed. The 700's were recently replaced with the the 780's so maybe you could find a used pair.

Used will still be over 150.00.. quality headphones are a great addition to any home theatre.. Everyone should treat themselves to a 1-2 hundred headphone. It's a wise investment. & Will probably out live you. I have 2 30 plus yr old headphones that are still going strong..
