Oh yeah, I saw it. Stretching the truth a bit, I'm sure.

this has already been discussed, and you figured it out in your own post. they said 1080p, same quality as blu-ray. never said anything about the quality of the picture

xtop makes a valid point. But yes, for the common ignorant consumer it is very misleading.

The whole "TurboHD" is very misleading

I've always felt that Dish was pretty misleading / shadey with their marketing.

I didn't think there was anything, coax or whatever, that a sat or cable company could give you that could handle 1080p anyways. Nothing but HD sounds pretty cool.

side question for your hd cable subscribers (especially onkyo owners). What do you do for your receiver settings when watching hd cable? I've found that all-channel stereo works best because the "theater" setting or multichannel give me no surround or action out the back

There should be an * that states "Some pixelation may occur."

all channel stereo isn't surround sound at all. you get front sounds coming from the back as well and that doesn't really give you a good effect. just press the surround button on the remote and use one of those listening modes.

how bad is it? I have Charter and they are very limited with their HD channels but the picture is clear and I rarely get any pixelation, even with sports.

the pixelation would annoy me if it occurred consistently

Does that happen with Dish too? I have Grande down here and one of their techs come out to 'fix' it, digital breakup, they call it. Paid $50 dollars and it still does it. It pisses me off so much because it doesn't happen every once in a while, it happens all the time.

They should just say "same picture resolution" as Blu-ray. People wouldn't know the difference anyway. I would still get Dish (when my cable contract is up), because it's probably the best quality broadcasting you can get at the moment.

AT&T U-verse is good stuff, we switched from Dishnet and the service has been better by far.

I'm very happy with the Dish. Much cheaper than the local cable company here and more channels.

As for the 1080p ad, it does bring awareness that blu-ray is the mark to beat. You wouldn't compare yourself to something that was inferior (VHS for example)

I have Charter too and it depends on the channel. On the premiums like HBO and Cinemax I don't get it much but through Starz it happens sometimes. On Demand in HD seems to take sometime to start up too sometimes.

BTW, with Charter, if your cable ever goes out, check with your neighbor and see if they still have cable. I was without cable for Monday to Thursday last week and everytime I called they said ti was a service outage. When a technician finally came, he told me that when they were disconnecting someone they cut my line as well. I was very displeased.

haha all my neighbors got sick of Charter and got Dish network before I moved into the neighborhood.

I haven't had too many problems with them but their limited HD channels are pretty annoying. they don't even have Spike in HD
