Default High Quality Headphones

I just bought a nice 7.1 Sony reciever and a set of Definitive Technologies speakers. However, I cant play them at night, which is when i love to watch my movies. I am looking for a High Quality set of headphones so i can enjoy my HD sound without waking up the neighbors. Can you guys recommend any?

I don't remember the other company that will get recommended but, I have two pair of Sennheiser and they are excellent. I have wireless sets and, the one at home allows me to wander everywhere in the house and still get reception, At work, I can go anywhere in the office and down the halls outside of our office. They sound great etc. I'd try pricegrabber or amazon for deals, as they are expensive and, if you check there site, they are full price.

You'll laugh when you see the price, but check out the Sennheiser HD 202 headphones. They almost pay you to listen to them - and they're quite good!

This all depends on how much you're willing to spend. I love my Sennheiser HD 600 set. They run about $350. The only thing is I don't know if a standard receiver would have the muscle necessary to run a 300 ohm pair like those. If you need something a little more driveable, check out the Grado Reference series or the AKG K701. If you're going to go the headphone amplifier route I love my Grado RA-1 high gain unit.

Check out head-fi.org, the absolute best place on the web.

^^ I also love my Sennheiser HD600s for home theater use. Be careful for headphones that rest on your ears as they can become very uncomfortable (I can't use my brother's Grados for more than 1hr at a time).

Stax Headphones are considered to be the best in the world. I recommend Stax Stax SRS-007 Mk 2 System W/ SRM-007 Mk 2 Earspeaker and SRM-007tII Driver. It is only $4,220.

You can buy the Stax headphone alone for $1,999 on Ebay.

Headroom is the best place to shop for headphones. They carry almost all brands (from low to high end), including headphone amps and accessories.

If you're looking for great and not too overly expensive headphones I would recommend the Sennheiser 650 model. I have it and love it!

I have these, and I love them, they are the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn, I can use them for hours without getting uncomfortable. They sound great and they're only $100.

Gah! You beat me to it! :-)

I second the recommendation for Stax headphones (or earspeakers as Stax prefer to call 'em).

Ok...let's see who shoots me for this one...

I'm consistently drooling over the Bose around ear headphones, I go listen to them in Target all the time, they sound great and are really comfortable.

I know, I know...Bose...but still...it's hard to find places near me to actually listen to other brands, so I don't have the option to compare these to other pairs...

http://www.amazon.com/around-ear-hea...9427254&sr=8-3

I don't think I've ever heard a bad thing about Sennheiser though

I owned those Bose around the ear headphones a few years ago, and while they may not sound bad they're very cheaply made. If you have a big head (like me) the plastic will likely end up breaking after a good amount of use, even if you baby them. Took about 4mo for mine to break, and apparently bose doesn't cover "physical damage." Lots of electrical tape and about 5months later I bought some slightly more expensive headphones and sound, build quality and comfort were all improved.

The same exact thing happened to me. The frame broke and I don't even have a big head. POS from Bose. Never again...

You're going to have to explain your logic on that one.
