ive just a normal sound system 5.1 dts and dolby digital.I can get 1.5mps from a dts-hd track but when i try the same with dolby trueHD i get the normal bit rate youd get with a dvd.It dosent even say dolby trueHD it just says dolby multichannel does anyone know why? and when i put the sound to my tv using hdmi i get what i wanted 1.5mps and it says dolbytrueHD but of course thats only 2 speakers so thats no good. Why would it work with dts and not dolby true HD

If your receiver can't take the full DTS HD MA signal, you can get the 1.5 mbps DTS---which is an upgrade over the standard 768 kbps DTS track.
TrueHD does not offer that middle ground: if you can't get the full TrueHD signal, you're stuck with the 640 kbps Dolby Digital track. If you're looking for a 1.5 mbps TrueHD "core," you're out of luck: it doesn't exist. Last edited by Joe Cain; 08-22-2008 at 09:42 PM. |

No.
You can only get 640 kbps from TrueHD. And you can get 1.5 mbps from DTS-HD MA. It's the way the codecs are unless you are using HD Audio. I'm using optical cable at the moment and can only get those 2 max bitrates for audio. It's just the differences between the two. You can't get anymore from True HD. 448 kbps is the Dolby 5.1 DVD standard. |

well im not going to argue and say oh yes you can as im not an expert on these things so ive took a photo of it the photo is of spiderman blu-ray truehd track ps3 hdmi to hdmi tv why can i get that over hdmi to tv and not through optical 5.1 surround system .its shifting from 1.4 to about 1.8 and as we know optical can carry the dts core at 1.5mps so its not that it cant handle it is it? i guess its just the most you can get over optical with this codec.Im gonna hope the blu-rays i buy have dts now because pcm is no good if you dont have a proper reciever because you can only get it through the front speakers so ive heard.would that be reduced pcm sound or the full bit rate just in 2 speakers.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/stu211076/2787397375/ DOLBYTRUEHD SUCKS cuz i cant get it lol Last edited by stow123; 08-23-2008 at 01:08 AM. |

TrueHD is a Variable Bitrate Codec, witch mean it can go from 1mbits to 6mbits in realtime |

Your getting the full TrueHD signal when you have it connected directly to the TV via HDMI because the PS3 is decoding it and sending it to the TV. Unfortunately this means you only have the two TV speakers. As long as you have updated your PS3 to the latest firmware, you should also see the PS3 displaying DTS-HDMA when hooked up this way to your TV if the Blu-ray has a DTS-HDMA track. The reason you only see Dolby Digital multi-channel when you hook it up to your receiver is because you are eliminating the HDMI cable. Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HDMA can only be sent via HDMI. If you are using optical, the best you can get is DTS 1.5mps or Dolby Digital Multichannel 640kbps. |

The PS3 is still decoding the audio correctly, but Optical is only capable of 2.0 stereo pcm Lossless. Your receiver sees the 2channel pcm and is applying pro-logic to it. |
