Default Pioneer VSX92-TXH Elite Q's.

Just some questions for the guys who own the VSX92-

What sound processing do you choose when using PCM - or bitstream codecs, along when playing DVD's, MP3's etc?

Does anyone know why 1080i looks better with HDMI connected via the 92 than directly to the TV (Sony 60A3000 1080p)?

Possibly the Elite is doing a better upconversion than the Sony. I'd just use whatever looks best.

As far as your settings, since you have a PS3 in the signature, for it you'd want to set everything to PCM.

I would have to agree, it sounds like you have a better video processor in the Elite than the TV. maybe someone with both units can confirm this.gl

I understand the PCM thing.. was meaning more like neo6 THX - etc.. the soundfields... processing within the receiver. It does change it somewhat even though it receives the audio via PCM..

Just use the auto setup MCACC or whatever its called. Set the receiver to "signal direct" for all of your sources. You can experiment will the auto-surrond features, but I personally think most of that is overkill and Ill never use.

Was going to get the Onkyo 805 - 875.. until I saw this one in person.. , it was over in less than a minute.

It had me at hello.. The Onkyo probably was a better receiver.. but the looks of the Elite just ended all that nonsense.

That Pioneer would be my choice over an Onkyo 805 any day. ( Keep in mind I can afford neither)

Do you have a 7.1 setup? If so choose (help me out here guys) the one that'll matrix a 5.1 to 7.1- I want to say it's neo6. Other than that, it's up to personal preference.

On the bottom right corner of your remote is the 's.direct' button. If you want to use your MCACC settings, which is very highly recommended for most novices, make sure the receiver says 'Direct' on the screen.
'Pure Direct' uses NO sound processing from your MCACC findings and is normally not recommended. 'Auto. Surround' uses your MCACC settings, but the receiver adds processing, which is not the true 'stream' coming through. I have always kept my receiver on 'Direct' for all Blus. I will sometimes put it on 'auto. surround' for certain DVD playback, so I can take advantage of surround sound processing, but 90% or more of the time, it is on direct.

Wow.. Sound Direct is da shizzle.. thanks! Much much better than the other soundfields including THX! Thanks.. and through further testing with 'DIRECT' 'Pure Direct' and 'Auto' - 'Direct' sounds the best!

I've been missing out! NICE!
