If you do a search here you will find a very good discussion on this, you will need to go back a few years . It's taken over 8 years to get to 1080p (we are not really there yet), the issues are how to transmit it, store it, then will there be a perceivable difference? For IMAX cinema's etc this may be great, for the domestic user - wow the size of the screen will need to be impressive. None the less a great article. However the 1080p TV's are NOT obsolete nor will be for some time to come

1080p is here for quite a while. 720p was dead before it ever got a foot hold.

Well to be fair it's taken since the 1970s to get to HDTV. There was a a resolution higher than 1080p possible back then but it wasn't made available for mass adoption.

So I wouldn't hold my breath for anything to surpass current HDTV for.......awhile

In japan late last year they had a demo, it was race car driving it laps. 3.5 teraquads of data space was needed for the 20 min demo @ 24 Gbps. Some people ended-up getting motion sickness!!!

UHDV will first be seen in IMAX & movie theaters.

4Kx2K will be the next big thing. And at CES LG-Hitachi was pushing multi-layer BD-ROM as the basis for that format.

Exactly, but i am amazed how many HD-DVD fans totaly ignore how BD can be scaled to fit this future format, hell its on the roadmap slides from hitachi, but man they just put the blinkers up and, "30gb is enough" just gets muttered under there breath over and over like a rocking mong.
