Looks like Circuit City is stepped up efforts to market HD-DVD players and movies. Here is the latest article about Circuit City and Microsoft pushing HD-DVD.
http://www.videobusiness.com/article/CA6418854.html?nid=2705 . The Toshiba players are predicted to fall in price under $300 this fall in an attempt to sale more players to the mainstream consumer market. In reality even if HD-DVD players were to fall to the $50 price range it still does not change the fact that only Universal Studios exclusively supports HD-DVD. Columbia pictures, MGM, Disney and 20th Century Fox exclusively support BLU-RAY. Here are a few things that need to happen in order for HD-DVD be successful HD-DVD players will need to fall in price so far that people start buying millions of machines. Also more consumer electronics manufactories need to make HD-DVD players. If enough HD-DVD players are sold then possible the HD-DVD camp might be able to convince Disney or 20th Century Fox to start releasing movies in HD-DVD. BLU-RAY is better quality with currently much more consumer electronics and studio support. For BLU-RAY to win this war then all they need is Universal Studios to release in BLU-RAY and the war soon would be over. Now if Microsoft was able to convince several hardware manufactories to built HD-DVD players and at the same time was able to convince Disney and 20th Century fox to release in HD-DVD then the war would go on for years. I like BLU-RAY since the specs are better then HD-DVD but the average consumer is going to look to see which format has the most support before choosing sides. Since nether format has full studio support many people might just wait for $500 Universal players to arrive on the market. The BLU-RAY camp can prevent a flood of several brands of Universal players hitting the market in the next few years if they can convince Universal Studios to release on BLU-RAY. A flood of several brands of Universal players on the market would mean both BLU-RAY and HD-DVD would coexist for possible several years like DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD has done. P.S. I have noticed the HD-DVD camp is running many more ads in magazines lately. Last edited by HDTV1080P; 02-24-2007 at 12:47 AM. Reason: grammer |
