Default Fellow "hot deal hunters" is it just me or has Amazon been replaced?

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place for this thread but it's for all of us "cheap bastards" here

I have bought BD's exclusively from Amazon since I got the PS3 (which I bought from them as well). Recently however with their "sales" taking a downward spiral in quality (I'm sure everyone here knows what I mean...) I've been forced to seek for deals elsewhere.

It seems to me that in terms of "everyday low-prices" (i.e. non-sale days) Amazon has been consistently trumped by Tower.com! Almost everything that I search on both sites comes up with tower being at least a few cents cheaper. Even when amazon musters up one of their "sales" with "50% off of titles" it is still not cheaper. They only get ahead when they have a B2G3 deal which are far too infrequent with a questionable selection.

I have been a very loyal amazon customer from way back but it sucks that a "brick and mortar" store can trump them so easily these days. Anyone else feel the same way towards amazon? Should the bar for hot deals now change from "better than amazon prices" to "better than tower prices"?

this belongs in off topic discussion.

Service after the sale, try Towers post price guarantee and LMK what you think. You have to look at the overall picture, you get exactly what you pay for

I gotta say that I still love Amazon......I have yet to order from tower and while we are on topic I decided to give familyvideo a try with my order of the proposition. It shipped last tuesday per family video and I'm still waiting for it.

As J mentioned the overall package for amazon with customer service, their website and account access is above an beyond all others. I do have to admit the sales have gone down in frequency and I've noticed their initial pricing has been a bit higher as of late. Of course the good thing is that they continue to adjust their pricing to match these other sites so as usual competition helps all of us.

Nah, Family Video blows most of Tower's prices away. But I will agree that Amazon is no longer the low price leader and if you want free shipping, expect them to sit on your order a week or so to help convince you to shell out the $80 for the privilege of a "Prime" membership and rapid delivery. No thanks.

Amazon sets itself apart from the rest due to its great customer service.

Aaron, do you know where Family Video ships from? (one or multiple places) and also how long has delivery taken? I'm still waiting on my copy of The Proposition and I have no way of checking where it is (i got the shipment sent notification email).

just email Amazon advising them of the current market prices, they will adjust accordingly, I guarantee it. I sent an email as i would love to get the UNI titles for 17.34 from there.

In my experience, Family Video charges me tax and Tower does not. (I live in Illinois if that has something to do with it.) Granted, after tax, the Family Video turns out to be about the same price as Tower.

Also, Family Video and Tower are only good when they offer free shipping.

Amazon is consistent. They never charge me tax and I always choose free shipping.

However, I do long for the days of those crazy Fry's and J&R prices.

The good news is no one is forcing you to buy from Amazon. If you don't like their prices, you have every right to shop elsewhere.

Amazon sucks...

That said, they are one of the few online sites I trust and buy from.

Were they better? Yup. Was EVERYONE ELSE? Yup. Times have changed. They dont run sales to get you to buy BD's just to thump HD DUD anymore... Big deal.

I will stick to making jokes about their horrible "sales" and keep sending them money, thank you.

So Amazon not running sales makes them suck They cant run a sale if they dont get an incentive from a studio and with the lack of competition it looks like that wont happen anymore unfortunately

by brick and mortar do you mean tower? cause tower's not brick and mortar. they filed bankruptcy in 2006 and closed all their stores.

i can't say that they're customer service is great. i've never had to use it. amazon has gotten faster recently with their shipping and such, but amazon has been a bad place to deal with in the past. the wait time was freaking forever it seemed and orders would get messed up. but then i'm not an online shopper much. if at all. i try to only use it when i can't get it at a store.

Maybe because I live in Cali, but I order from amazon and choose the free shipping and I get my movies the day after release.

I also shop there because of the customer service.

When I choose free shipping at Amazon, my purchases take anywhere from 10 - 15 days to show up. I've had a few take even longer than that. I ordered some Blu-rays from Borders with a 40% coupon last month, met the free shipping limit, had prices slightly cheaper than Amazon and my movies showed up in 4 days.

Amazon can be a great place to shop, but it's not always the best place to shop.

Well the Amazon Prime is the way to go, I got my order yesterday in 1 day, shipped from MD. Choosing free shipping, Amazon ships it media mail, the slowest method short of a turtle delivering it.

Get in on a group, 16.00 is worth it in my opinion
