Default MST3k Fans

I have been an avid fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000 since it first aired when I was about 6 years old. I wanted to know who else in this forum is an MSTie.

One of the best tv shows of the past few decades...and one of the most influential. tom servo rules...and rifftrax is pretty awesome, as the previous poster mentioned.

More importantly, have you checked out Cinematic Titanic? It features Joel, Frank, Trace, Mary Jo and Josh.

Loved the show. The only one I couldn't bring myself to finish was the classic "Manos: The Hands of Fate" ( or Hands: The Hands of Fate) episode. That movie was so bad that I don't see how the MST3K cast could sit through it.

The show was absolutely amazing. I always taped it on VHS when it was on Sci-fi at 7am or so. I'd take the tapes to school and get people hooked. Friends would stay over and we'd make sure to get up early enough to watch it.

As for how influential it is, look at this review capsule for Never Back Down, that MMA movie which came out this year:

Quote:
If Mystery Science Theater 3000 ever makes a comeback, I’ve got its first movie. A soulless blend of bad action, bad acting and worse writing, Never Back Down is tolerable only if merciless wisecrackers are offering commentary.
That was written by a reviewer for the Kansas City Star, and when you read something like that you know the movie is complete crap.

here here! I've got most released videos of MST3k, have been a fan since the early 90's. Great stuff.

Riff tracks is great, I haven't actually played one yet while watching a movie, but have listened to one of them.

Some of my favorites

The Magic Sword
Alien from LA - oh yes that's Kathy Ireland with a very annoying voice
Santa Claus - mechanical reindeer!
Deathstalker

And

Jack Frost - the Russian version with Nastinka in it, crazy crazy movie

I've got every episode on DVD, I bought them from a guy on ebay who taped them on VHS, digitally converted them and then setup a menu system and burned them on DVD's. The total collection was expensive, we've had them now for about 4 years.

I love MST3K. I still have MST3K: The Movie on LaserDisc.

Aint It Cool News has a great interview here with Joel Hodgson, Trace Beaulieu & Jim Mallon at the 08 Comic Con.

Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett, and Kevin Murphy did "The Film Crew" last year, which is basically MST3K (the Mike Nelson era) minus the puppets. You can instant watch some of them on Netflix.

I've been slowly trying to collect all the sets on DVD... I just wish they were a bit cheaper (like $30 instead of $35-50 depending on the day).

MST3k movies are one of those things I could watch at any time and always be in the mood.

I was always rather fond of "Girl in Gold Boots" and "Overdrawn at the Memory Banks" (both are in the same Rhino DVD set actually: Vol 4, iirc) -- Sometimes it's hard to figure out whats funnier, the fact that these movies got made at all, or the commentary.

Set 4 is great, a great recommendation for someone who hasn't seen the show and is looking to view a few episodes.

Space Mutiny is also worth mentioning. "could there be any more metal railing?"

But they call the Manos/Santa Claus Conquers the Martians 2-disk "The Essentials" for a REASON...

(And it's Set 8 that has the immortal "Monster a Go-Go", once that the boxset makers figured out that there was actually more to the series than the lame Sci-Fi revival in the last three seasons.)

I've heard that it's all about distribution rights. Whoever is doing the sets can't get the rights to do a lot of the original ones. Hopefully they are able to eventually
