Hello All,
I am on the fence right now as to start in on BD. I currently own a Sony XBR Wega that is about 5 years old as well as a Sony Reciever. Neither of which has a HDMI hookup. My DVD player is a Denon with both DVD-A and SACD playback which is hooked up via component. My sattelite is also hooked up by component which between them both uses my 2 component hookups on TV. What I would like to know is would I notice the difference if I went out and bought the Sony 350 BD player now or should the TV be the next purchase? I know a new reciever that decodes the HD audio will be needed later. I was considering starting to get some BD's now to start my collection so I don't double dip later with hopes of possible player by years end. Does this sound reasonable? Thanks for any advice/opinions. Cheers |

Either way if I were you, I wouldn't buy any DVD's anymore as those will end up being double dips which is IMO a waste of money as for the picture quality inherent to a new TV, check out TV's that are showing BD's in stores and decide if you like it over your current TV.

Thanks all.
I am quite pleased with my current TV. I agree that buying anymore DVD's at this stage seems like a bit of a waste unless it's a title that is not out on BD. I am on the edge on whot to do as I can get a player by xmas thus avoiding any further double dips but a new TV won't be untill next year at least. |

Thanks.
I am sort of itching right now but I think its more a frame of mind where I don't want to end up double dipping. I think I will wait and get the TV first then BD. In the meantime I will pick up the scatter disc and rent more to avoid the double dip later on. |

If you like the PQ of your HDTV now, just live with that for a while. Get a BD player, stop buying DVD and rent BD if you have to. Then when you want to upgrade your HDTV, then you can do so knowing that the PQ will only get better.
Better get a BD-Live player to begin with. fuad |

How many DVDs do you typically buy? If you have a smaller collection (500 or fewer for instance) then you'd probably want to stop buying DVDs and pick up an HDTV as soon as possible, and get a Blu-ray player to rent blu-rays until the prices go down (and bargain shop of course, or pick up your favorite titles) and if you have a larger collection (1,500 or more for instance) then you'll want a better HDTV to increase the PQ of the DVDs you already have, and if you stop buying DVDs, you'll be able to buy a new TV and blu-ray player pretty quickly......
See what I'm getting at....... New TV and New blu-ray player are needed in either case ![]() ![]() I had my HDTV with HDMI etc... for 2 years before ever playing ANY HD content on it ![]() |

As more or less a complete newbie I've got a question which I know you all must have heard a thousand times before but I hope you'll be patient as I am very new to this!
First off the kit I've got is: Toshiba 46XF355d lcd tv Pioneer DV-410K upscaler DVD Toshiba SD-370E Sony 5.1 surround system BTW, some may be puzzled why I bought 2 upscalers. That's because I saw the Pioneer for sale a few months after buying the Tosh. I bought it due to the USB port which is an important factor for me so I can watch xvid/divx without the rigmarole of burning discs. Anyway, my question is this. With my current tv if I buy a BD player am I really going to notice a big difference? And, if so, exactly what is the difference compared to SD-DVD? I've never even seen a BD movie so I really don't know what to expect. As a final question. If I do eventually buy a BD player, which machine would most of you recommend to achieve the best possible PQ? Thanks, guys! ![]() |

get the TV first, it will make your BD experience that much better and you will notice the difference between DVD and BD a lot more

Thanks for the advice. I am currently planning on getting an LCD in the spring. It will be a 40 inch due to space restrictions in my wall unit (I only have a 42inch wide opening
