Sony Str-DG720 (see price in cart )

...for decent speakers you may have to save a little more...or go for something like:

Yamaha NS-SP1800

obviously for your budget they will not be the best speakers on the market, but would be well worth the money. (Until you upgrade later on of course )

I would never recommend against.

Are there better receivers on the market? yes. But for the budget its just fine.

edit: if you are talking about this thread, they are both Sony.

No, I was referring to a little pissing contest that I got caught up in a few days ago over Onkyo versus Sony... I got pounced on for recommending an 820 to a guy who wanted to stay under $400.

If I remember correctly, that thread a few days ago was about staying under $400 for a receiver in which case I would not get a sony; however, if trying to stay under $400 for the whole thing, speakers and all, then I would say the Sony's are about the best HTIB you can get for under $400. If you can go up to about $500 than the Yamaha is what I would recommend.

I found this for $400. Its not bad

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sony-...oductDetail.do

Sony HT-SS2300 5.1 Dolby and DTS Blu-ray Home Theater System $399

its has all the blu ray codecs and speakers are nice and small.

Good Luck!
