Default A little more about Arcam

I have a few more details about the first and forthcoming Arcam Blu-Ray Disc player. I have spoken to Mark at Arcam's new North American distributor, American Audio and Video (Arcam was formerly distributed stateside by Audiophile Systems, Ltd.).
While it is still unknown if this lone BD player is going to be either in the DIVA class or the FMJ class, it is believed that it will first be unveiled at the Winter CES '09 in Vegas in January. It is expected to arrive at your local Arcam dealers in February or March '09.
Pricing has yet to be determined, and there are still no tech specs at this time. The important thing to remember about Arcam is that their components are good for a reason: they are all built from the ground up and they do not cut corners in their design philosophy. So, of course, some of you are no doubt clamoring for a BD player that will also do SACD, DVD-Audio, yadda, yadda, yadda.
But their current standard DVD players, the DIVA-class DV135 and DV-137, and the FMJ-class DV-139, all boast SACD and DVD-Audio capabilities. So who knows if their first BD player will come packed with these audio goodies as well.
I know, there are hardly any BD players (if any at all) with SACD and DVD-A, but I wouldn't hold my breath regarding the forthcoming Arcam BD.
I'll give you all another update in December.

Jodi

I gave the 137 and audition 2 years ago when i was looking for a new player and while it was not what i was looking for it was a very good player, in particular with SACD. It will be interesting to see what kind of connections it carries as Arcam has gone on record as not recommending HDMI for audio transmission.
