To my utter shock and disbelief, I picked up the aforementioned titles at BB today and, lo and behold, they both had Dolby True-HD 5.1 audio! For nearly 30 year old films to get this and SPEED RACER not to is bizarre. Did they do this as a favor to Eastwood? Is this a sign of a change of heart to the WB? I mean, these aren't UNFORGIVEN and MILLION DOLLAR BABY. These are two flicks I remember seeing at the drive-in as a kid and not his Oscar winning stuff, so I don't see why they were tapped for lossless audio. Any ideas (not that I'm complaining)?

i know what you mean 14.99 also at BB and True HD Audio!
The only drawback because I am a purist is that neither film contains the original Warner Bros Logo from that period. I just wish they could leave alone the original prints and not tinker with the original logos. Still it makes the Blu ray release of Speed Racer look bad in DD 5.1 |

I agree. Warner should leave the original logos intact. They did keep them for the BD Dirty Harry set. |

Is "Every Which Way..." on Blu really worth the double-dip? Or minus the HD audio, will I still be satisfied with the upscale DD 5.1 SD version i got for $5??

that's totally up to you man. That's a subjective answer. Me personally I can't stand DVD anymore if there is an HD counterpart. I gotta have the best version out there or it's not worth watching.

I haven't seen the DVD upconverted, but the Blu-ray is not very good at all. I'm sure it's still better than the DVD, though.

The PQ on this is pretty damn good, and that's even ignoring the fact that the DVD of this may possibly have one of the worst transfers I have ever seen. This BD should be an immediate purchase if you are even a minor fan of the film.

Hey,
It's laugh-able that people complain because Every Which Way But Loose has lossless audio and Speed Racer has only compressed Audio. I have both and guess which one has the far more impressive audio? I'm all for higher quality,... I'll often double dip for it but I would not re-buy Speed Racer, the current release is fine. -Brian |

Absolutely Agree. ![]() I just watched this today, and was definitely surprised by how good the PQ was on this BD. And to have a lot of scenes filmed outdoors in the desert environment helped it also. A must buy for any Eastwood fan. . |
