Default Where's are all the "good" movies on Blu-ray?

Every day there is an announcement for some garbage film that a studio is bringing to Blu-ray. Where are the Hitchcock films, the old classics, the contemporary classics?

'Good' is relative. A movie you might like I might think is garbage, and vice versa.

Plenty of 'good' movies on BD for me. The rest I dont mind waiting for.

Good movies like the Godfather? The Searchers? Wild Bunch? No Country for Old Men? Crap movies. All of them.

Very few catalog titles are selling well. New releases are what's driving the format. Unfortunately, the majority of current BD owners only wants new movies with explosions in them.

Keep in mind, alot of the classics didn't show up during the first 2 years of DVD's lifespan. How many years did it take for the Godfather Trilogy to show up on DVD? 4 years. Others took longer.

Be patient and before long there will be any amount of choice.Obviously older movies will have to be restored and remastered and that will take a good deal of time.

That's because those types of movies benefit the most from HD picture and lossless audio.

I have a few classics that I really like, one being Caddyshack. I will probably just stick with my DVD though unless they do a huge remastering of the original print for bluray. When the studios know that the consumer will stick with their DVD, then that means it won't be as profitable to release a catalog title.

oh boy....

Apart from the question what is a "good" film, there are movies like the one's the op wants available. The problem is, that not enough people have been buying them.

The format is still young and growing. Naturally the studios will focus on titles that they think will sell better and reach a broader audience to help the growth, as opposed to films that have a tiny market. These movies are the same movies, that sell well on DVD today btw.

Once the market has reached a certain size and profit level, i am sure there will be a lot more "other" movies released.

PS:
make sure you get region free play-back, so you can import from all over the world. Lots of movie gems are out already or have been announced worldwide.

Maybe it's cuz all the "good" movies are grain-free....and most movies have grain.

Actually it has to do with what the studios release. If the studios released all the 'good' material you can bet your life that people would buy it. Its not just that 'the majority of BD owners only want new movies with explosions'. Also, not everything benefits from HD.

Edit: Though you are right, a lot of people seem to have this belief that only films with explosions, CGI and heavy doses of action will look good in HD...this is simply not the case.

A great example of a "good" movie. I would buy that in a heartbeat if it was on BD.
